cracked case
« on: January 01, 2012, 02:18:57 PM »
havent been on here in days but yup a sad day for the KX  I have a 15 tooth sprocket up front thats prolly what killed the case but the chain fell off the back and jammed up in between the sprocket and the shifter shaft, and it pushed the shifter shaft down and made about a 1 inch crack in the bottom of the case and it dumped all gear oil...

I was just wondering if anybody else has had this problem and if theirs a legitimate way to patch it, with JB weld or something or am I SOL and need to get a new case

any input on my problem would be appreciated

I am betting it was the chain coming off and breaking stuff up and not the sprocket.  But looks like you are going to beo. The hunt for a new case.

Make that plural....."Cases"

Did the chunk stay with the cases or is it on the trail? We have a member here who is a magician when it comes to metal.

Good used K5 cases are getting harder to find.
I'm working on getting 3 K5's and cleaning out his collection of parts.
Probablt won't have them for 1-2 weeks.
Even then a bunch of parts will go into the private reserve  :-D
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.
