About 40 mpg on the road.  I did 125 miles coming down from Alaska and had just under a gallon left in my 3.8 gallon Zip-Ty tank.  15/47 with an overdrive 4200rpm @ 60 mph.

HA....slim to none!!...I don't know for sure,20-30 miles.I do alot of sand track and wide open power lines,so I could probably get close to 40 in the trails.
Excuse me, ma'am...but you've got extremely nice legs!!!...what time do they open???                                                                                                               https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8tCgN3aryQ

That's about what I get on my 00 K5 while sand riding, perhaps a tad more.
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

This is an impossible question to accurately answer.  terrain conditions, jetting, mods, throttle discipline (or lack of) all play a major role in fuel economy.

Dual sporting my crisp jetted stock KX500 with good throttle control on logging roads I can squeek out about 45 miles on a tankfull

*edit*  Oops, I also run a 15T sprocket when I dual sport, hence the better fuel economy

I can squeak 38 out of a 2.2 gallon tank on my 500 if I take it easy. Easily under 30 when on it. This is a 04 KX250 chassis conversion.
A couple of 03 and 04 KXs, a few YZs, 3 PE 400s, a DR and a TS.

My 91..  Havnt clocked it yet.. But last desert race.. The 2 laps used  half tank..   Tank is 3.8-4.2 gal depending who you ask...  Lap was 24.8 miles
