Chain guide/subframe guard
« on: August 29, 2011, 04:24:27 AM »
Hey all,
As you know, the chain wearing into the subframe is an issue on the KX500.
When  I bought mine, the prior owner had already installed this set-up. It's simply a piece of plastic
cut to the shape shown and then simply screwed into the chain guide. I know, I know . . . I thought the same
thing when I first saw it- "that's not gonna last for crap." But it's worked perfectly and hasn't
been a problem at all. Even with that one screw missing. Hooray for cheap and easy ideas that work!!   :-D :-D :-D

The marks on the subframe are from the prior owner of this particular subby that I recently had bought on ebay.

On the rear guide, you know how that little block is about $30? I just took some scrap round stock Delrin that was
laying around, cut it to fit, drilled the center and voila!

Cool functional mod ! Different than what most of us do, but it works the balls and that's all that matters !

I know, huh? I keep wanting to screw around with that sub-frame guard and make it  "better" but it
just works so darn well and hasn't been a problem. I'm just mad that I'm not the one
that thought it up!!!!  hahahahah :-D
