unstoppable oil leak

i cant seem to stop the front sprocket seal to stop leaking, ive put in seals , o rings and still there is always a red river underneath my bike.

how can i put an end to the leak or slow it down so its not that noticeable?

Did you replace the metal slide colar??  Seals wear grooves in them... Then never seal..       also putting the seal in with some case sealer on it (around the outside where it seals against the case) is a good practice for ALL seals...


One more thing..

You dont know the MEANING of Unstoppable Oil Leaks.... Till you own a British motorcycle  :roll: :roll:

no, the collar is a discontinued part. i do have a few collars but they dont work. i have heard of people on this site putting RTV in where the seal and collar is.


British motorcycles leak all the time?  :|

Hmm.. I see the later ones stacked two O-rings up....   Wonder if the Later ones would fit?   Or possibly a Kx500 one?

Wouldnt be hard to make one... Have a lathe?

You could take a British motorcycle 100% appart, wipe all the oil off every single part of it off with a rag... Put it back together, Drop it in a VAT of yamabond....... and it would still leak...

a member measured the kx500 collar but i havent measured mine yet... illl do it now. i have an extra collar in my tool box to measure. ill post back later

copy and paste from a members kx500 measurements

The collar is 25mm ID X 32mm OD X 10.5mm Length.


MY measurements

25MM ID x 30 OD X 9.53MM length. maybe the length was greater cause the sprocket spins over it

install new o-ring, collar, sprocket. Then, place a thin shim between the sprocket and retainer clip. this keeps pressure on the o-ring. We always used sea-doo steering shims (they come in different thicknesses and fit around the shaft perfect).This always worked for me,you might try it if you can find something that will work.

Had that problem when I was running ATF, went back to 10w-40 amsoil motorcycle synthetic and I have not had the problem since.  Something to try.
