09' KX250F <----> 98 kx500 questions
« on: August 02, 2011, 03:35:21 PM »
First Post on this forum. Seems to be some great knowledge on here. These 500 conversion bikes have been my weakness. I've had an itch for building one and have just never got around to it. Which brings me to my next questions.

1) I have the opportunity to buy a 98' kx500 running bike for around 1500 bucks in good shape. The better half ways just ride she s**t outta it the other wants to have a project. But then I can strip the engine/electronics and sell the rolling frame probably for atleast 700 bucks

2) I have found a 09' kx250F complete bike minus the engine (1000$ obo) and sell the carb, and electronics.

how hard is the 09 frame to modify? Is is the same as the other aluminum ones? Have to shift the Y brace upwards?

Also, is the 04 frame any different to get in it harder or easier cause i might be able to buy an 04' kx250f

Thanks to all

Service Honda started using the "09" and later 250F chassis for the 500AF conversion. Maybe you could look at a the newer 250F's with a tape measure and compare to the "04" chassis. Kawasaki made some changes to the 450F chassis in "09" which made it more difficult and I believe SH also went with the 250F chassis because it cost them a little less up front. I can't remember anyone here specifically using an "04" chassis but if so I hope they'll chime in.

Welcome aboard! Boatload of knowledge around here especially where 500's are concerned!

If I remember correctly, the 04 and 05 KX250F are the EXACT EXACT same as the 04 and 05 RMz250, Suzuki actually made the Kx for Kawasaki those two years. But I'm sure I'm just barking old news.

Looks like the donor Kawasaki I had my eye on (09' kx250f) was sold. WTF, I thought a grand for the brand new rolling chassis was a good deal.

Well I still have a couple 500's I'm looking at. Either fixing up or going to freshen up the motor and look for a 250f.

What is the easiest bike to fit the 500 into?
