here is another packing thing.

slap like 5 of these in the bottom of the saddle bags.

Im to cheap to buy real dry bags.. (and they get $$$$ when you get big enough to stuff my duffle bag in)...

I use them for..

Dry bags.
Poncho...
Lay out to change tires on
cut up to cover bike when parked in rain....
etc..

works good, starts to rain, you can cover up your luggage with them..  when done... trash em...

they work good for trash also

I had a boot split on a long ride and used a garbage bag over my foot to keep it dry. It did sweat, but it was better then being soaked. I probably would not have bothered but it was quite cold out. All the cloths were packed in bags also.

Utah is a Bigger cake walk. I think Colorado will be your challenge from what danger posted

Pikes Peak 14,114 feet  is a mountain in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, 10 miles west of Colorado Springs, Colorado, in El Paso County in the United States of America.

Mount Evans is a 14,265 feet mountain in the Front Range region of the Rocky Mountains, in Clear Creek County, Colorado. It is one of 54 fourteeners in Colorado, and the closest fourteener to Denver.

Mosquito Pass 13,186 feet is a high mountain pass in the Mosquito Range of central Colorado in the United States. The pass lies on the boundary between Lake and Park counties between Leadville and Fairplay.

The awesomeness of the pikes peak race just sounds ... Off-road racing is truly the highest form, right next to indy cars on the world wide city street circuits
if I only had a pair, I could actually ride this thing

naw.. colorado .. thats all cake walk..   altitude is natural... been a backpacker int he seirras for years..    have had my KTM over 13,000 before..  runs fine (thank god for CV carbs)     I have also done alot of colorado before.

Utah.. well thast just like my local riding... sand and rocks..   so Im at home in utah...

out of all of it.

Idaho scares me most..    as the trail I chose to follow is layed out in the Idea of a Plated CRF450 would run them.....   Not a 640 ktm loaded for a month and a half....
I did my best to route around the "challange" points..   but May have missed a few..

ps... T-MINUS 6 DAYS

I picked this up, YEARS ago when I did ALOT of backpacking (on foot) in the sierras.

Works good as.

First aid
Sterilizes things
pain killer
antiseptic
cleans things well (think rubbing alcohol)
and with a bit added to your hot chocolate at night, when its cold out... is just...

What a year.  You won't have to  worry about snow in the mountain passes, just fire and the occasional flash flood.

Yea been watching that one.

Here is one..

Compression sacks..

they are great

In this one sack.. (I am somewhere between a medium and large glove)..

1 set of long underwear
2 helmet liners (head socks)  of various temp
1 dickies jacket (yes, a heavy ass mechanics dickies jacket... not a fancy backpacking one... this one jacket probably takes half the bag)
1 fancy ass backpacking jacket (marmot)
1 pair of sweat pants
1 long sleeve t-shirt
2 pair of compression shorts
1 compression shirt

Anyone used the little hand vacuums and the bags with the little valve built in? Often wondered if it would be worth the effort on a bike trip to carry one. Vacuumed cloths take up a whole lot less space!

have thought of it.. but the bags those use are normaly very heavy.     I cant speak for others, but I am in and out of my stuff enough that having to vacupack few tims a day would suck..

final redition of map..     (canada not shown)  as its still a... if we decide to while we are there kind of deal..

spent a good deal of time today... programming in waypoints for all the small Micro-breweries I go near....   vital information for navigation.  :-D

That compression sack is brilliant. Just drawstring cinch down kinda thing? Can hardly see it around your big mitt
