« on: April 07, 2011, 02:56:04 PM »
Any one know the engine differences and updates between 89 and 04? Any upgrades or was the engine development frozen in 89? thanks in advance.

Few things off the top of my head... and that I have discovered recently..

1. Kips actuating arms changed somewhere around 1993 ish.. (longer)
2. Shifter shaft got larger on the splines. (1995 I believe)
3. Crank webs changed (Believe (based off parts diagrams) 88 had holes in it, 89 went to no holes..
4. head went from E1 to E2... not sure the differance... but its a differance.
5. Hmm when did they go to the final design of the kips drums?  (went away from ones with holes in it)
Going to have to look that one up.. not sure if it was 88 or 89...
6. The rod changed casting numbers through the years, still same dimentions though...

Oh I know that one...

That changed with the flywheel...
these are the numbers on the FLYWHEEL... but when the flywheels changed, so did the stator plates..

F4T107 71 FITS 92-04
F4T102 71 FITS 90-91
F3T81171 5701 FITS 86-89

Also the CDI changed in in 89/90  and stayed the same till 04..

Some late 89 models had the upgraded 90-91 flywheel as well.
It's hard to keep a drivers license riding a 2 stroke dirt bike on the street.  If you drive within the law they are VERY boring.
