Flywheel numbers
« on: March 06, 2011, 05:07:31 PM »
Just noticed somthing
Anyone know how to decode them?

My 1991 (team green) bike had the following
F4T1002  71   0601

This 1989 Flywheel on ebay has
F4T1007  71   0601
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MAGNETO-ROTOR-FLYWHEEL-1989-KAWASAKI-KX500-KX-500-89-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem588c534e39QQitemZ380311391801QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Identical except the last number in the F4..... series...

I swear all the numbers on the later flywheels are also F4T1007..  that I recall seeing..

Anyone else have one that matches my number??

F4T107 71 FITS 92-04
F4T102 71 FITS 90-91
F3T81171 5701 FITS 86-89
I have it all recorded here:

The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

Very interesting...

I know the stator and flywheel are differant for 90-91, yet the igniter (CDI) is the same as the later ones..

Any idea what they changed? and why?

Must have been a good reason. for them to change the stator and flywheel after 3 years...  Big factorys dont just go changing that stuff for no reason.

i am unsure of dimensions off top of head but my 86 rotor is about half the weight of my 94. it looks like it is 30 percent smaller, maybe morei remember looking into it a little, it seems they went to big flywheel in mid 89. i bought an early 89 setup for my 94, it seemed to help alot, made the bike rev easier, felt lighter in the tight stuff. i noticed the same going to lighter rotors on my crs. i am unsure on igniton mapping for the years.

I have the 87 (small rotor) setup here on the bench out of my (you guessed it) 87 500.. but dont want to go that route...

Im more interested in what they changed between the 90-91 to 92-04 setup  (yes it was the flywheel and stator plate)..   BUT what? and Why?

I could get some measurements for the later model but I'm feeling lazy  :|
Scratch that, it's all packaged up and ready to ship and I'm not that ambitious  :-(

Could it be that the the two weigh the same, but had different OD dimensions? Creating more centrifical force with a larger diameter flywheel that weighs the same? Or have I had too many home made brews tonight?  :-D

same OD measurement and weight.

Ok, so would the magnetic "blocks" on the ID of the flywheel be different? Just thinking out loud. If so, that may change the pick up coil intensity?

Hey kaw rider.
Besides the numbers can you see any discernible differences?
I'm looking at pics but I can see enough details to see any real differences.
Thanks!

i can't believe i didn't catch this before. With all the talking with the oldguy with the stator being different. If the flywheels are not side by side you more then likely wont catch it.
