KX 295/300 from a 1997-2002 KX250 or a 03-07 model better?

Can't get a hold of Eric Gorr just yet, but was wondering if anyone had any experience with a late model KX250 vs. the 97-02 KX250 for the 295 cc kit?

Joko,
What do you want the bike to do?

Will be riding intermed terrain outdoor mx tracks, looking for good low end & strong mid.

Joko,
If you that is what you are looking for the 310 Kit is the way to go. That is the setup I used to run in the Vet class many years ago & it definetly had ALOT of controlled grunt that made clearing that double right out of a turn alot easier & with alot less wheel spin. Which bike do you currently own?

Tried to do one on a 2006 kx 250, had the guys at Kustom Kraft do it, it was there first......and last. it never ran more than 5 minutes, the port configuration is so different than the older cylinders, once you bore it to fit the 310 piston the ports get really close and the rings hook the ports, not enough support. you could go to a like 265 or something but don't waste your money on the 300 ish

Doldguy,
I have a 2001 kx250 now. Where did you get your 310 kit? Seems like pistons are not available any longer?

Joko,
I got my 310 kit from Rick Peterson, and again it's been awhile back. I think I can still find the piston kit & will check to confirm & let you know. Mine was a 99 KX250 & know it's not just a simple bore & plate job as there needs some welding done for structural support & Rick was going to stop offering the 310 as it was quite labor intensive but the 73mm piston will fit into these style cylinders, but as Don stated does not work in the last generation KX250.

Edit: Also have the mag article on the late model KX250 big bore & will try to scan & post if interested.

Thanks Doldguy. Yes, please post the article if you have it. Did Rick also port the cylinder?
