what is the farthest advanced you've run it, or heard of anyone going?

also, the measurements you give, are you talking vertical or in the same plane as the plug hole. ie if you had a dial gauge threaded into the sparkplug hole, its not travelling vertical but at the same angle the plug sits.

i don't have one of those fancy setups so i'm just using the end of a caliper held vertical in the plug hole

Spend the $40 on ebay to get the good one, it will be more consistent,  The first time I did not have one and used calipers and held it square on the the hole, it took longer to get right than if I had just bought the right tool.

not going to get it by tomorrow am unfortunately. after that, back to work and done playing.

any insight as to how far anyone has run advanced, or if you're talking vertical or the same plane as the plug hole?

I bought one... Last time I made my own.
It worked fine but this is too sweet to pass up  8-)

so the best we found was at 20.45 deg BTDC. A peak of 78, and over 70 from 7500-8500rpm. very strong.  measuring along the circumference of the rotor, its 22.5mm from the factory mark. did some math and figured out every 1.1mm is 1 degree .

going back to 2.2mm / 16.2 deg / 17.8mm you're down about 6hp over a 1000rpm range.

at 1.5mm / 13.3 deg / 14.6mm youre way off the mark. down over 10.

it will barely run when its set at TDC

didn't advance any more than 20.45 deg. thought we had gained enough. we likely could have though.

This is running c12, checking plugs, fuel flow, egts. all that good stuff. use at your own risk. Mine's staying at 20.45 though.

my math says 3.49mm (vertical, draw some triangles and sort out correction for the plug being on an angle if you like)

can you get the timing curve for these things? would sure be handy to know if you could find out.

especially for a guy who got you all this good info!

I will see what I can do.  That number would not work if using a timing dial indicator.  It would be way too retarded.

Was it ever determined if this system would work on both the KX250 and the '86/'87 Tecate 250?
