19 rim vs 18 rim
« on: January 28, 2010, 03:41:17 PM »
ive got to relace the rear rim on my 250. i ride off road almost excusivley so im thinking about making it a 18 rear because of the added benefits since im thinking about racing this bike this year.

so i was wondering if anyone here has made the switch and if they would do it again. or should i just stick with the 19 and just ride the d**n thing?

18 inch rear wheel will allow you to have a tire with more side wall which helps reduce pinched tubes. I think you'll be very happy running the 18 for offroad. The 19 inch wheels are great for track, they offer a short side wall which flexes less and gives the bike a more positive feel when hitting turns.

If you have to change it I would suggest the 18".  It offers a better tire selection with a taller sidewall and you can even go to a trials tire, which is not offered in 19".  As hughes said the 19" was designed primarily for track to keep the sidewall short.  I haven't had any flat issues with the 19" and I ride in sharp rock, but with an 18" I might get away with a lower pressure.
