BO, why a 600?  Is it any different for a 1000?  I would suspect smaller bikes get "wrung out" more often than bigger displacement bikes, but that's subjective.

My 2003 FZ-1 is rolling 30,000.  There are LOTS of guys with 2x and 3x that on
the FZ1OA forum.  High milage isn't what it used to be for the mechanicals of modern bikes.

Ya I ride a 01 ktm duke II. It's a 640 single supermoto geared up for freeway. It has plenty of tork so tall gearing is fine for around town and the twisties. Its a blast but I hate looking over my shoulder for red and blue lights. Thats one of many reasons I love the dirt, you are suppose to be rowdy and reckless, you know, the stuff they put ya in jail for on the road.

Barry, I am considering a 600 because I don't have too much street experience and thought that a 1000 might be too much.  Maybe the 600 will be too much too.  If I'm being stupid let me know.  I surely would welcome a 1000cc 2 stroke kx, but I have some dirt experience and have respect for the mighty 500, but no fear.  Maybe I fear the street.
If some is good, and more is better, then too much is JUST RIGHT!  B.O.

Blue Oval,

I had a 600 prior to my 1000 & it was a great bike, but, you had to wring its neck to go, like riding a 125 2 stroke, and it would go very quickly (too quickly) which can get you in trouble fast with the law man. I was debating on a 750 or a 1000 also thinking the 1000 will be way to much for my needs but friends advised me to invest in the 1000, & I am glad I did. The 1000 is SO much easier to ride then the 600 as it has alot of torque & does not need to be revved to go. I can leave my 25 MPH neighborhood in 5th gear @ 25 MPH & the bike is content. A comparison I would make between the two is 1000=KX500 & a 600=KX125, both are plenty fast & both will hurt you if you are not responsible, it is just easier to ride the 1000 as long as you respect what it can do.

I recently was a leader on a demo ride for a local tryumph dealership. I rode all of the 2010 line up. Regarding the question of 600 or 1000... Tryumph has the street triple (675cc) and the speed triple (1050cc) they are basically naked street fighter sport bikes. No fairings and mx stile handle bars. I really enjoyed both bikes. I was able to ride the street harder and faster than the bigger bike. The smaller bike is more nimble and flick able.
I liked the speed more, it felt like a bike that I would "grow into" to really ride it hard. Not that the bike was hard to ride, quite the opposite, it was very user friendly. Blue Oval is spot on with the comparison of the 125 vs 500. I would buy the bigger bike. They are more comfortable at freeway speed and on longer rides. Go to a good dealer ship, they should let you ride both if they think you are serious.
