Tall Seats
« on: December 10, 2009, 12:30:23 PM »
Just wondering if anyone is using a tall seat. I here that it is a quicker transition to standing and I try and stand alot when I ride. I'm asking on this thread because my current ride is my 1991 KX500 in a 2004 KX250 frame. I'm not real tall 6' but I do use taller bar clamps that I love when I'm standing. Thanks for any input.

I'm 6-1 and like stock height seats with tall bars. I don't like the tall seats for slow going, I like to be able to easily plant my feet when needed.

The only people I know that get along well offroad with tall seats are the 36+ inseamers.

Thanks for the info it really helped. I have a 34" inseam and was not sure if I was going to like it when I trail ride. Since half the time I ride it's either hard core trails and the other half it's hardcore hillclimbs, I think I am going to try one when I go hillclimbing and keep the stocky for trail riding.

And lo, I did loft the front wheel and carried it forth to the unbelievers, and cast it down before them and said unto them ''look now upon the might of my throttle control ye pitiful cretinous ones''
And the unbelievers did quake in their boots....

I'm 6'4 and I've found that the guts seat is great. the SDG is good too but its a little stiff for my liking.
also ROX bar risers are sweet. they will sometimes shift back with a super hard wreck though.
Here's where i got mine.

ceet make nice tall seat foam, but in the last 6 months i have bought tall foam for 3 of my bike, 2 took two to get right. the first foam was so soft you could push down with your hand and touch the seat pan. but both times i got a super soft foam, i just called them and they sent me a better one. if you don't like it they will make it right. i had a sdg tall seat assembly on one of my cr250s, it pretty much was the ugliest seat i have ever seen. i didn't line up with anything, was loose where the tabs are, just not right. not sure the chinese got the mold right for the seat bases, as mine was terrible.
factory effex also makes tall foam. never tried them though. if you are over 6 foot, more than likely a tall foam will help your transition from sit to stand. for me it helps me move around better also.

My sdg seat actually fit better and looked better then the stock kawi one but that was on my 2002 kx250 chassis. I'm sure fit and finish varies from bike to bike. The best thing for standing is raising your bars, It's hard to get them to tall. I'm running the tallest bars I could find with a half inch spacer under the clamps. I can stand all day, I'm 6"2'. It make sense that if your seat was tall you could go from the seated position standing position easier.

I sure like the ergos on my A-frame 450f. Remember that the higher you are (when sitting) the more difficult the cornering will be,,,it just simple physics. That's why the mighty K5 runs into trouble on a motocross track,,,, but sweet in the desert. Maybe more squats in the morning with some weight?
