Which year has best low end power?
« on: November 20, 2009, 12:21:35 PM »
Hi all, new to this forum.  I have other Big bore bikes, but no KX5 yet, would like your opinions on which year has the best low end power.  I am a fan of big low end grunt.  So far my 87 CR500 has the best, but I want more.  The most disappointing bike is my 93 KTM 550MXC, a totally over-rated bike.

enigma,
The 90 to 2004 engines are the same so they should all have the same low end power +/- manufacturing tollerances and engine condition.  I owned an 87 CR500 for a few years and replaced it with a KX500.  I never liked the powerband on my 87, too much light a lightswitch.  First bigbore I ever owned that was a challenge to do long multi-gear power-wheelies on a dirt road.  In a drag race they were close but I found the overall useability of the KX500 powerband to be far better.  It definitely had more and better low end power. Cam.

PS my 82 CR480 had phenominal low end power
