I don't know and I'm not going to say it's not a 79 but I thought the big bore bikes before 83 were 420cc.

I'd like to see what the bike looked like before you started your rebuild  :-D
I thought there was a KX400 in 1979.
I didn't know that there was a KX500 in 1979..
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.
