What premix ratio do you run?

I am still at 40-1 with Klotz R-50, been meaning to go to 50-1 but havent summoned up the courage. Bought the bike new, had over 300 gallons of fuel through it and still has full power, rings and piston look great.

I use Amsoil Intercepter, and the recommended pre mix is 50:1 so that is what I run.  I ride from 6,500-10,000 feet here in the mountains of Wyoming and I have had no problems.  I have got the bike pretty hot a time or two because the speed is really slow (1st gear rock trails) with almost no open spots to open her up and get air into the radiator, but the lubrication seems to be working fine.  I really have had great luck with Amsoil.  My buddy swears my crank is going to take a dive because he says it is not getting the oil it needs at that ratio, but I trust the Amsoil dudes.

im not to sure about the pinging. it was kind of wierd, but sence i was tring not to get my butt kick by miles and miles of crazy desert whoops, snow and the other stuff the race throught at me,im not super sure. if it does it again in the next race,i'll post something about it

A Case Study: Last night I opened up a 2001 YZ125 that ran 40:1 chevron TCW3 (yes Chevron) oil - previously owned by a Yamaha shop mechanic (oil recommended by him too).  125 PSI compression. The top end had been in there for  3 years casual riding. I noticed 2 things right away.  First it looked much better than I expected and I was surprised at NO carbon.  The head cleaned up perfect by wiping with a cloth and no unexpected cylinder wear.  What I did find was that the piston (and the extra worn ones that came with the bike) all had small exhaust port bridge (there are oil holes too) seizures.  Not significant...but there!  In addition, my belray run motors always have a nice comforting coating over everything and oil pooled in the collector ducts for the main bearings. This motor had nothing.  In conclusion, the Chevron oil, while not something I would choose run in anything, performed much better than expected.  It has published ratios of up to 100:1 (my yamaha outboard runs that) and I suspect it might be made by Torco.  Still I did not see enough things I liked.  I will be sticking to synthetic, Belray MC-1 being my poison of Choice. i ran  belray mc 1 at 40 to 1 in 5 or 6 diffrent bikes from 1983 to about 1991  and rode them very hard  with no problems so i think it was a good ratio of mix and a good product in belray so when they came out with there h1r i made the upgrade and have had no problems

I usually ride sweep, and don't get out of 3rd very often, so the bike isn't run very hard at all.  Ran Maxima 927 for about 3yrs with no problems, and am using up 3 gal. of Blue Marble I received when a guy at work sold his Bass Boat. 
   
  I'm interested in the Royal Purple and wondering if any of the Guys with Snow Machines
have run Polaris VES Gold.

  Where did you find that cool article?  I have huge respect for Gordon Jennings. Interresting article, but written in 1978 before the mainstream of synthetics.  They may be right - and a great topic for dicussion!  I base what I do on past experiences.  I am the mechanic I am because of all the engines I have seized and exploded (that doesn't sound very good).   I raced my 1978 Husky 390 for its race season using 32:1 penzoil (mineral).  Numerous piston seizures and couple of blown rods was quite common over a long race season.  In 1979 I got a new 400 maico and this cool Belray MC-1 sythetic oil that recommended 85:1 on the bottle.  That season I got 52 pro races out of that engine, no seizures no blown rods, nada. On rebuild it was worn, but carbon free, intact and running.  I was hooked and have been a devout Belray fan ever since.  I would love to see that test applied to a modern engine and comparing castor to mineral to synthetic at say 20:1 40:1 60:1 and 100:1 to see what results they get.  Cam.

hi guys! do you guy`s over in the states still get castrol r 30 2t. that stuff was amazing and the smell was the best smelling 2 stroke oil ever . now theres a company doing strawberry smelling  2 t for jetskis .  whats that all a boot ! bring back r 30! what do you guys think over the pond ?

i run br h1r @ 40:1 with a shot of Klotz octane booster, it acts like a stabalizer in addition to the delicious smell.. yummy like race gas, not fake produce.

AMZIOL 50:1 with no problem - My last two stroke sled had 1300 miles without a rebuild and still running 148psi across all three cyliders.  I use AMZIOL in my truck and only change oil two times a year - I do change filter more ferquent.  If your woundering I have 192K on the truck and still running hard.  AMZIOL all all the way - Sleds/Bikes/Trucks/cars.

Just put a new stock piston, cylinder was re-nikasiled,stock jets,1mm.head gasket ,no pinging,93octane mixed at 40:1 Blenzall(green label)want to make sure top end is well oiled
