KX500 Flag Mount!
« on: November 09, 2003, 12:00:20 PM »
I whipped up this flag mount today for the Glamis trip! It is my understanding of what one of Paul's friends made for his bike. So I have no pride of ownership, I added one other additional feature! I used the standard 1/2" mount in the rear and in front of that a 3/8" hole with a piece of tygon tubing for when you break your other one off. I used 16" of 6061T6 alum. 1" square tube and the tubing I got from a slime bottle. I had to use a longer bolt on the front muffler mount with some washers to space it out.

I like that mount , nice job . I got tired of mine breaking off the rear wheel mount so I just cut my flag down a little and ty-wrap it to my chest protector . No more worries .

It's a safety requirement to ride in the dunes.

At Little Sahara Okla. flag pole must be at least 10' from the ground.  Entrance has a big horizontal pipe that your flag pole has to hit.

Someone also needs to shim out their silencer (or stop running a 5.10 rear tire) :) LOL

All ball breaking aside, sweet job on the flag mount! Don't those flag poles ever whip you in the head or body? I am an "east coast" mud/rocks kinda guy, so I have zero "dune" experience......

Every once in a while the the flag pole will hit you but it's not bad.    The grind mark on the silencer is no laughing matter. I can look back on it now but I can only allmost manage a grin. Dec. 11 '04 I flipped my K5 at low speed and hurt my knee real bad. It bent the silencer toward the tire. My brother driving it back to the truck did the grind. I'll post some pictures. This gives me an idea, we need a topic about what not to do on a KX500! When we went to the new web site format we lost all the old pictures we had posted. My friends that were with me when I crashed give me a hard time, "show us how you flipped your bike again". I tell'em "get behind me so you'll have a good view". No one has taken me up on that yet. It's no fun being on the business end of KX500 rear wheel.

Yup, I know EXACTLY where you are coming from. My "green" 2 wheeled buddie kinda half-a$$ looped out my 5 this weekend. Not as bad a getoff as you had I am sure, and luckily he slammed down on the left side of the bike, so all's my bike has is a broken rear fender. He learned that hard way about "mud to ideal" traction conditions with a 500 !!!! I saw the whole thing unfold, once in a unprepared-for wheelie, he slid off the seat, and rolled the throttle open....... BAD, BAD, BAD situation on a KX500 !!

Oh, and those rub marks will show up on a KX500 silencer with a 110 on the back. You just have to get the bike to take flight ;)

FuriosSly made himself and me the coolest, cleanest mount yet.  Ask him for details...I think he could easily sell them. Look at the one in my gallery; his is cooler than that!

I could do with one of those duner flag things cos my wife is only 5'2" and I can't see her over the shelves when out shopping, I keep losing her in the aisles.
Don't think she would be too impressed at me welding a bracket onto her though :-(
