Gas going,going,going
« on: July 16, 2008, 09:18:51 AM »
As gas prices rise, oil drilling here in Okla. picks up.  And they need more parts.  And the parts need to be shot peened.
That's were we come in.  We are all most needing to add a 2nd shift.  The more gas goes up the more work we get.  I've been doing 10 hour days and it's getting old.  On the other hand I don't have time to spend money.
The drill mandrels you see go on top of what they call a down hole motor and that's used for directional drilling.  The machine shop is doing a 200 part run on these.  We need to get 20 done per day.  We have 3 different areas to blast and each is a different shot size.
We hit the ground running each morning,  I have a good team and we work like a machine together.

I know the feeling. For the past few years, my business has been booming. But have absolutely no time to enjoy it, barely ride street or even dirt. Wife doesn't complain though..

Here in Michigan, things are not so prosperous, many business's are failing and many are very slow on work. Coupled with high gas prices the average guy just doesnt have much coin to spare.
I am very happy for you, enjoy the prosperity. When the work slows down you will have more time and the cash to do stuff with.

so if you make those things faster we can drill more in the US then we can stop buying oil from across seas and we might see the gas prices go down?  If so... get back to work!!!  haha j/k... no but really hurry up  :-D

My sister and her family live in Northern Minnesota. It's kind of depressed there also.  I rode the oil boom a few years after high school, 1978-1990.  Then we had the oil crash and it hit bad.  At one time I was mowing lawns and trimming trees to get food and gas for that day.  But the boom is back and I'm going to ride it again.

As for the gas here,  VP 110 octane leaded race fuel when we went and rode Little Sahara OK. cost $7.38 a gallon on June 29th.
Today, 91 octane pump unleaded was $4.03.  89 octane was $3.87
The 110 race gas was $1.95 per liter.
The 91 pump gas is $1.06 per liter.

1 US gallon = 3.78541178 liters

Just last week fuel prices were: 4.12 (87), 4.22 (89), 4.32 (93). Which I find isn't so bad because there are less people on the road and the kids who used to hot rod around now can't afford to. My truck has lost value over all this, but I never planned on selling nor planned to stop driving it.

David, glad to hear your success, I hope for your sake, the "ride" takes you a long way.

Funny, six months ago it was 4.19 per gallon here, I just read about gas in a near by town for $1.32. Gas and Oil are about 1/4th the price since I posted here. Wow

Am I the only conspiracy theorist? Anyone think that wall street knows something that we don't about the petroleum industry? Alot of the price/ gallon is due to high, or now low, trading volume of their stocks. Either that or they are trying to starve-out the american ethanol industry. What could the pressure be? Most everyone cut back as much as possible back in the 90's. I doubt that its all supply and demand. I wonder if a big scientific breakthrough is coming on the alternative fuels or if regulation was rumored from the goverment.
If it was confusing before, when prices went up immidiately after a tropical storm showed up on a radar, but now is more confusing. I'm sure that this a good cooling off period for the american people and our representitives, as low prices probably is just giving OPEC time to reorganize the scam without investigations bogging down the profit machine.
When is VP going to be 1.39/gallon?

Here in West Michigan it made it to $1.47 with towns nearby that got to $1.42. I would like it to stay this way, as it really helps the average guy. And right before Christmas helps the people with kids.
The price of gas here can change as much as four times a week and I dont know why. I dont think the stations buy fuel that often, so what triggers the price change either up or down ?
I didnt even use my motorhome last summer due to fuel price, however if the price stays close to what it is now, I will get back into using it for dirt bike trips.
