Just got a '03 KX250
« on: November 08, 2006, 11:14:24 AM »
Just got this:

It has:
PC Works Pipe
FMF Shorty
V-Force reeds
Racetech springs all round

The motor sounds good and pulls really hard.
I hope to convert it for bush duty and have ordered the following list of stuff.

Kawasaki Shop manual  :-D
Clarke 3.x gallon tank (Natural)
Acerbis Rally hand guards
MSR full Skid plate (the PC pipes bottom mount gets in the way, I'll have to mod it)
Promoto billet Kick stand
MSR Rear Rotor protector
Stealthy Flywheel weight

While I was at it, I got new chain and sprockets, chain rollers, fork guards
and handlebars.

I want to get a Gnarly for it to boost to bottom end, But figured I'd try it out
like this for now and see how it goes.
I intend a full strip down and re-build of the bike before use.
What else is there that I'm not thinking of?

I'm in Frisco, just North of Dallas.
I have already started the strip down, here's a thread of how it's going:

BTW, if youre not a member of TWT, and you live in Texas... you have to
join up. Lots of local content.

Waxahachie... cool, so we're not that far from each other. A ride is not
out of the question.  :-D
Sorry to hear about the crash... hard wipe outs suck.
I'll keep the thread updated with progress on the bike. Keep us posted on how
yours is doing as well.
When everything / one is fixed we need to find a track / place to ride between us
somewhere. I can get at least 3 or 4  guys from around here to join in as well.

Mudshark and MadKaw,  Dallas isn't that far from OKC.  Lake Murray ORV park is about half way between us.

Most riders agree the fee is worth the improvements that have been made to the park. ?This is one of the best parks we?ve found in all the parks we go to,? say Brad and Rhonda Herman from Tyler, Texas. ?The thing about the state parks is the reasonable fee so you can enjoy the land at a fair price.?

The Lake Murray ORV area is located four miles east of I-35 (two miles east of the park entrance) off SH-70. For park information, call 580-223-4044.  http://www.travelok.com/atv/off-road.asp

Here's my quad after riding at Murray after a good rain.  Found a deep mud hole and it stoped the quad and over the bars I went.

Maybe we can meet there sometime.

I'm all for a trip though for a good ride/weekend.

i didnt know a bout a large rock in the puddle...

kx666, my Aunt and Uncle live in Ocean Park south west corner by Oregon so I heard about the rain plus it made the national news.  I'm from Washington, grew up in Aberdeen then Battle Ground.  We moved to Oklahoma when I was 9, 40 years ago.  Been back many times, and each time it's harder to come back to Oklahoma.

:-D hehe! the race is on !
The "rebuild" suffered a bit today when I discovered that the axle lock bolts
on the fork bottoms were stripped (2 of 4) After tapping to a larger size and
replacing the bolts the rebuild continued. It's starting to look like a bike again.

she's lookin good man. gonna be doin a total rebuild on my engine... but its gonna be better than it was before...stronger...faster...we have the technology 8-) gonna cost me about a grand to get her done, wish I could do the work myself. never been into a moto motor before though. nervous about getting it together and then having to redo it. but man yours is coming together nice. that frame looks good. would like to do a frame up on mine. I did find a brand new 2001 kx250 at a dealership though. would like to buy it and use mine as a parts bike, but don't tell it I said that!

Thanks MadKaw, I'm planning a motor rebuild next year also.
I'm planning to replace the:
Jug
Whole Crank / bottom end assembly.
Piston / rings / small end
My boar is ruined, the previous owner let a bunch of sand in through the air filter.
anyhow, it'll still do for a few more months  :-D
But because of the sand, I'm replacing it all. Oh yes, I'll trade in the Pro Circuit Works pipe for a
Gnarly for the woods.
I'm still waiting for the rear end bearings, clutch cable and silencer packing to arrive next week,
then I can finish off the build.
