renthal chain
« on: June 06, 2006, 05:43:49 PM »
I have a Renthal chain on my bike.
I like it cuz it simply doesn't seem to stretch.
I don't like it cuz its worn a groove in my case.
It does seem to have found it's happy place and I don't think it is eating anymore.
I have switched to a 13 from stock and it made the groove wider.

Question:
How thick is the case behind the groove?
Other than the mod to relieve the sprocket, is there a sprocket made that will space
the chain out farther.
Is it wearing my case because I am not using a Renthal sprocket?
Any extra info would be awesome!!!!!!

Got any pics? I bet the reason your chain is wearing into the case is because you are using a 13T sprocket. The smaller the teeth count, the smaller the dia (which can rub the case). Put a 14T on. If you don't like the gearing, fiddle with different rear sprocket sizes.

Also, an option is to go down on the rear sprocket rather than the front sprocket (as Polar-Bus said). 13 is rather small. The Renthal chain is just the Regina or RK? I can't remember which one, but it is just a normal O-Ring (or non-O-Ring depending) and shouldn't be wearing your cases out. I run a pretty thick chain on my bike and have no issues yet.

The chain was wearing the case with the 14 sprocket (stock)
