Finally a site for my bike!!!!!!!
« on: May 28, 2006, 06:07:23 PM »
Have spent the last few days reading the kx500 posts, all of them!!!
Decided to register today.
I own a 2000 kx-500 cr,rm,yz,380exc killing, billygoat on wheels.
I have owned it for 2 1/2 years
Previosly I owned '86 yz-490. This was my first bike. I have been riding for five years. I actually think my 490 will take my hunny in a race.  you have to be completly crazy to ride my 490. has power band like 125 but tourque like 500 and wagon like suspention.
I am not the best rider but I would never buy a small bore bike (i weigh 225 lbs.)
Im sure I could learn more easy on a little wiz bang bike but the power is so addictive.
Have litterally had to put padding in my ass when learning how to wheely.
I cant believe all the info I have learned so far, and can't wait to post some of the questions I have to some of the kx 500 gurus on this site.
Till then keep er pinned!!!

Welcome, we've been at this for a little while now ;)

I launched the original variation of this site in 2001, lost all the data due to a bad hosting decision in 2002 and thankfully the members at that time decided to hang with me through the rebuild process and we have close to 4.5 years worth of data online here that is religiously backed up by Deru.net.

Welcome to KX riders! I owned a 86 and a 87 YZ490 and I have raced them side by side and while the YZ is very explosive in may feel faster, the KX5 Puts the power to the ground better and has a much broader and controllable power band.

Again Welcome to the site!

Welcome BillyGoat! Hey, install a PVL in your KX. It will make your YZ490 feel like a torque hungry 4 stroke vs your KX like a 125.

what is a pvl.
I am in the process of getting a gnarly pipe and making a reed spacer with dual stage reeds.
I love bush/mountain riding etc. and want my bike to be as close to a four stroke as i can get
also thinking about gearing 13/48 maybee
any sugestions on how to make this bike a tourque monster would be very helpfull
my bike is a little zinggy for my riding needs
I ride single track and hardcore rocky hill stuff
ont want to go and get a thumper as my hunny kicks the s**t out of all thumpers
I actually think thumpers are kind of gay
please help me make a tourque monster
i pissis me off when my buddy bogs out, hits his starter button and keeps on climbing

ever tried to kick over a hunny on a 30 deg hill???/ :?

For your type of riding a PVL is the LAST thing you'd want, you should be looking for slower revs not explosiveness ;)

Reed spacer and Gnarly with a Vforce reed block will supply you with more low end torque than you should ever need. Especially with the slightly bigger rear cog. But unlike a pusy old 4 poke, you will also have a punch top end to enjoy at your will.

  Have fun!

Flywheel weight?? Should help with traction and keep the bike from stalling during the real slow tight stuff.
