low retail $385

average   $505     from nadaguides.com if this is the case i might start bringing them into New Zealand as a wee earner - is there not a big demand for the beast in the USA,i herd the sales of two strokes is being outlawed in the USA ? Maybe that might start bumping up the price. 8-)

Nada always lowballs used prices. I went to kbb.com and they say my 88 kx5 is worth like 1,2** something.

The market here is a bit different. Cause we only recieved low numbers of kx500's they are a bit more highly priced. It all depends on demand and supply. The motors alone are worth up to $3k. Highly sort after for the super kart boys.

At Geraldine there is a 99 model for sale for $8500. That would be fairly close to what it was worth new. Legend bike. They will be worth a lot more in years to come for the good ones. The vintage m/x lads will be falling over themselves to get them when they become eligible.

Nadaguides is pretty much for Dealers and Banks. It gives them a place to "estimate" the value and of course in the Dealers favor, because they can low-ball you on the value. And the bank so they can loan you the "actual" value. If you were to sell your KX here in the states around my area it would go for $1200-$1500.

I don't think I will ever sell my KX500. I would like to have 3,1 for sand, 1 for dirt/motocross/hill climb, and 1 street legal supermoto. That should do it.

Here on the east coast, we are whimps. All tracks are SMALL. Areas are small. My 250 is too much for them. The only place my 500 can thrive is on the dragstrip which is sand. I hate to say it, but it is pretty much worthless for the rest.

But, it would be a nice thought to have enough space to run a 500 open on a track/dune area. Just a dream.

I know what you mean about small areas. My track behind the house is on 14 acres. Now that I have my jetting right, I can't get out of 3 gear.  On the straight away I have to shut it down before I wind out 3rd gear or I'll be swimming in the creek. When I want to open it up we ride along side and in the North Canadian river. This link shows our riding area, it's not up to date because it doesn't show all the trails we have made. Also the river is full of water, most the time it's only 3 to 12 inches deep and winds back and forth across the river bed like a small creek. The dirt road along side the river is 5 miles long, lots of room to go WFO or WOT.

You can open it up at Little Saraha Oklahoma.

As far as what a KX500 is worth, it's the old saying,"It's worth what ever you can get out of it". To me it seems like they don't bring big money on ebay. The KX500's that are in good shape don't meet the reserve. As soon as I get some extra money together I'll buy one of those " I like the bike but it's to FAST for me, so I'm selling it".
Here is a quote from a guy with a KX500 on ebay right now "I bought this last year and am selling this because it is not the best bike for me to use to ride with my kids and their little 80cc quad. Also my wife wants a new kitchen floor and this will my floor money".  I've seen alot of statements on ebay like this.

if your riding (racing in the middle of the country) most of the guys who cut trails are riding smaller  bikes and looking for obstacles to keep there intertested in riding loop after loop on the same trail. I raced my k5 for 7 years and there was only two places (races) that i could use the kx to its potental. Both places don't have races any more.
