2000 kx500 perf mods
« on: April 02, 2006, 04:27:57 AM »
Hi all, I have a 2000 kx500 pretty new still and completly stock. I weigh290 and don't like the 4 stroke 450's keeping close to me, what mods can i make that will give the most power for the buck. I'm getting ready to take it to my Kawi dealer and have some work done like reeds, pipe "pro cir or FMF" ignition and rejet. What would you guys suggest and thanks for any help.

Thanks

That's a pretty broad range. Usally desert riders crave top speed running (Top-end) and trail riders want low-end grunt. Either way, for trail riding or low-mid range power, it seems like a good reed spacer and flywheel weight seems to do the trick. Also, sending off the cylinder to be ported to your desired powerband. That is the best mod. Pipes have a small effect on power, but FMF makes a few pipes to the desired powerband. PC also makes good pipes, but have little experience with them.

Let us know what type of power you desire (e.g. smoother power, more torque, more HP, overall HP, topfuel, ect.)

Don't forget a reed spacer! It is the best bang for the buck! :-D

Slap a desert pipe on your KX and gear her down (more top-end). That should do the trick and quite some-more. Send your motor off to a engine specialists to have it ported and make sure your jetting is right on. There is some real nice modifications you can do to go overboard, but it is going to cost you. But Boyesen Rad Valves boost your overall hp at the expense of the low-range.

Nice Gallery Gowen, I see you have FMF pipe the guys here in Riverside Calif told me to use a Pro Circuit and Boys reeds with a pvl. I currently have 14 and 47 sprockets, I can beat the 450s in a drag race but they are close untill 4th gear. most likely my take offs are somewhat to be desired "to worried big 5 will flip over if it catches traction" I am going to go with the pipe and reeds with .375 spacer they will rejet for me since i am not sure on how to do it correctly, I hope they do. Vforce or Boyseen?

Thanks

PS In 2 weeks I am going to get either a KTM 525XC or a Husky TC 510 any info on either of these 2 would be apprciated. Not for me but my son he is tired of getting roost in his face LOL

Rocky, you can check the map and see if anyone is your area. Not everyone reads this forum religiously ;)
