Stabilizer, gas tank and bars
« on: March 27, 2006, 09:53:24 AM »
Hello,

Well I finally purchased the Scott's stabilizer. But it looks like it is not going to fit with the Clarke 3.9 gallon tank.
Also, I have Renthal bars, meaing I need to remove the cross bar.

1) Does anyone know for sure if the IMS 3.7 ot Zip-Ty tank clear the Scott's stabilizer (w/ the weld on tower)?
    a) If I need to buy the Zip-Ty tank, do I have to use their radiator shrouds too? Any other shrouds fit?
2) Will the Renthal bars(7/8") be ok without the cross bar (does it really make them that stonger)?

Additional info - I am use the BRP rubber triple clamps and and the scotts-ready bar clamp.

Thanks for any responses in advance.

Kevin

you can easily bend/bow the crossbar using two handlebars for leverage, then you can still run it.

Scotts Performance sells Renthals that are per-bent to work with their damper. Give them a call.

I run an IMS tank with a weld on tower, plenty of room.

Thanks for the reply.
I would assume that is the 3.6 gallon tank?
Can you email or post a picture so I can make sure I have it welded correctly?  I have never seen any close-up pics of the welded version.
If it's too much trouble, that's ok, don't bother.

Thanks,

Kevin

I had a Scotts with the 3.9 Clarke tank, it fits without an issue. Just looks tight ;)

Hello.

Well I got the cross bar bent just fine.
Now, the weld-on tower is too tall.
I am using the BRP clamp.
It seems it must be cut to weld right.
Also, the stabilizer will seem to fit, but the stabilizer arm will basically be toughing the Clarke 3.9g tank.  It think that is ok, because the arm doesn't move.
Any other person with the weld-on tower have to cut theirs?

Thanks,

Kevin

If I remember correctly, scotts sells different arms with different bends/heights. Also, depending on what type of mount you use, that will dictate the combination of arm and tower (pin height) to use.
Finally, since I pulled my stabilizer off my old bike before I sold it, I had to get a new tower and mount. The tower was easy, a piece of solid stainless tube with the end notched. The mount, well I was supposed to have one made but my buddy flaked out and now im looking to just buy one.

good luck.

If I remember right the tower pin stop slides to accommodate different heights.
Just checked the manual and it does, leave 20mm below the stop. I bought mine used with the tower cut from another bike. After adjusting the pin it just barely fit. The tower is pretty close even on a stock tank
