Gas Prices - New Road Bike!
« on: September 05, 2005, 05:11:28 AM »
Hey guys!

I am like going nuts over these gas prices!   I figured out I could buy a new street bike on what it takes to fill my truck up 2 to 3 times a month!

So  I am going to buy a new Kawie street or cruiser bike to ride back and forth to work and only use my truck for desert and dune trips!

In about 10 months my lease is up on my 03 truck and I am going to buy a  3/4 ton 4X4 diesel to tow my toys!  I am also going to run it on Bio Diesel!

Check into  Bio Diesel!

My brother just bought a 1994 KLR 650 for $1,750. It had 7000 miles, still in fair shape. It gets about 45 mpg compaired to 17 to 20 mph from his truck. He drives 45 miles round trip to and from work, in time it will be a free bike. Sorry, but the KLR650 is dial up, the KX500 is high speed DSL.

Demo,
What are you paying for fuel over the pond?  In Canukville were about 1.22/litre and rising (of course).  Glad my 3/4ton 4x4 runs on propane for 0.49/litre. Cam.

Oklahoma is an oil and natural gas producing state, our gasoline is about 20 cents a galllon less than the rest of the states. Low octane (87) is about $2.85 - $2.90 a gallon. 89 octane cost about $3.05. 91 octane cost about $3.29. I run leaded 110 octane in the K5, in Sept. 04
it ran $4.50 a gallon. Sept. 2, 05 I picked up 20 gallons, and to my surprise it had only gone up 0.50 cents gallon to $5.00.

When gas started going up in price some guy had filled a couple of 55 gallon drums to save money. He had them in garage. When he went to transfer the fuel the fumes caught fire from the pilot light on the hot water tank. He was severely burned, plus his house burnt to the ground. He didn't save any money.

OUCH!  That story should be under the "Stupid" thread I think.  110 gallons of gasoline in the garage??? I dont even like keeping my 5gal can in the garage. Thats what the shed was made for. Important lesson to be learned here.

So how do you guys think I would look on a 1600  Mean Streak?

Well I was already to buy the Concours, then I slept on it! I will be 60 in February, this is no time to buy something because its the practical thing to do!

So I am going down to the dealer on Friday afternoon to ride a 1600 Mean Streak!

I will keep you all posted!

They just were saying in our local paper that here in Redding Ca. that we had the highest gas prices in California (excluding the little one station towns in the mountains),$3.17-$3.40 a gallon for the cheap stuff.I wondered why the price of gas went through the roof over night here and it took a week for deisel to catch up in the price increase?.Id get a street bike but dont trust other drivers and sometimes my self!

I heard that fuel prices went up when a large amount of your refinaries got flooded along with New Orleans.

Over here we are paying almost a pound per litre which works out at $1.83 :(  I try not to look at the figure myself.
Oh as far as I know it's 4.5 litres per gallon.

Gas Prices??? Wow, you guys are paying what we pay here in NC. It was about 3.69/gal here a week ago, but has settled around 3.09 so far as of today. I've been pretty distrout with the gas prices myself, but thankfully I do have a motorcycle ('05 Yamaha R1) which gets about 30-50mpg running Spirits 100RON fuel (30mpg for racing and 50mpg for city riding, but for the price of the fuel,4.99, it moves it to the 20mpg-40mpg catagory) So, I'm pretty set there. But vehicle wise my truck was getting horrible gas milage, so went out and purchased an economical Toyota Supra to compinsate for the mileage, 10mpg-26mpg city and 10-28 highway, depending on the spool  .
