Excellent suggestion but..... I removed brand new races so there was no need to order more, and grind the old set down as I am reusing the new stock races that I removed.
Further, I should have taken a pic while I was doing it... I put a rag under the ball... Just one layer...
The pic I posted was after I had done the deed and then decided I should post it but I couldn't find what I did with my clean rag..
I knew if I put a dirty rag in there people would freak
I have done this same procedure many times over the years with no issues.
Then again, I don't beat the race up.
If you look at that hammer, it's very small and light.
I'll take a pic of the bearing surface later, as you will see this method does not damage the bearing surface in any discernible way.
I have done this same procedure and ran the races and bearings for over 15 years in the past so I'm sure these will outlast me and my bike riding days.
