Just curious... How much does that rear wheel weigh?

why...your wallet gettin a little heavy?

I wish....
No, I was just wondering if that sort of wheel is heavier or lighter then the KX wheel or SM wheel..

Welded the edges of the dogs and machined them in. Shaped the edges with a dremmel and followed the contour. They turned out much better than what they were

Looks great... That is where I was thinking of going on gears that you can't get anymore.
It will be interesting to see what the longevity will be.

my only concern is, aren't they hardened from the factory?...and was that taken into consideration when you welded them.?
other than that, that's great...much cheaper than buying a new set! 8-)
Excuse me, ma'am...but you've got extremely nice legs!!!...what time do they open???                                                                                                               https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8tCgN3aryQ

I'm not sure but I believe you need to pre heat and then use something like a heat blanket to cool slowly.
I would also imagine that rod choice would be important.
I'll bet Larry knows.

I was worried about the hardness as well. Whatever rod he used though is very hard. The mill was squawking when it hit that rod material. It never made a sound when it was was facing the gear material itself. I'm curious to see the longevity as well. Hopefully I won't find out too soon!! LOL

Question: How do you set timing for the '85? I have a Clymer manual that shows a 3 line adjustable style and 1 line fixed style. The plate on mine shows only 2 lines next to  the timing mark. Where should I be lining up?

Made a sleeve for my silencer core. The core was too gone to reweld further. Stuffed it with Bristol Core packing, nice stuff to work with.

Sandblaster: I did a Google search and found a link to one of your projects. your ignition is set up much different then mine. the coil and everything is mounted in a different spot and shows the 3 adjustable positions...

scroll down to the picture of the plate for your thread...

Your right...
It's why I have not replied as I have not done a 85..
86 and up have 3 marks as shown in my pic.
That's easy... Middle mark...
Yours?
If I had to guess, just like you have it in the pic... Right in the middle... But it's only a guess...

Thanks for the reply sandblaster. I am going to try and center it, then and see what happens. I can't find anything else online on how to set it. really wish the manual covered it.

have you tried calling a Kawie dealer and talking with one of the service techs?...you might not get an accurate answer, but it's worth a shot...even if you call a few different ones from different areas.
I've even e-mailed Kawie and Honda directly before in the past, to get answers that not even my local dealers could find.

A more accurate way would be to put it in the middle which will make it run then put a timing light on it when its running and adjust it from there. nice thing about the smaller flywheels on the earlier models is you can adjust the stater timing with out removing the flywheel each time.

I wish that last part was true, but it is still not adjustable with the flywheel installed. Covers the entire plate behind it. Called the kawi dealer, he said to adjust it in the center like sandblaster said to do and go from there
