« on: December 23, 2015, 05:37:17 AM »
Picked up this about a month ago as a restomod project, never owned a 500, always wanted one!

Have all new plastic, custom graphics being made, and a ton of other new stuff just waiting to get put on!!

Looking great!
Some inspiration for me when I rebuild my 1988.
If I might ask, what technique did you use to shine up the motor like that?

Just curious what all you did to the engine?
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

Thanks! As far as cleaning the motor we pressure washed it real good to get all the crap off it, then used a dremel bit and a drill with a soft wire brush and went over the entire thing. After that just hit the side case with a polishing wheel...real happy how it came out!

I bought the bike done and running, the previous owner said the rebuild had less than 10 hrs on it, as far as the motor we just cleaned it up and leaving it as is internally. Carb is being taken apart, rebuilt and cleaned up real good with all new vents and hoses. Put new reed boot and reeds in it. Powder coating the swingarm black, triple clamps black, with all new hardware, suspension is being all redone for me with racetech valving, put MX32 Dunlops on...lots of parts waiting to go on!!!  basically everything will be new or gone through as it goes back together.

Has anyone seen if a aftermarket company makes a case saver for a KX500? I cant find one anywhere! I've seen bikes with a aluminum one...no luck on who sells it or where?

here's a Works Connection....

I've seen better ones that extend out to protect the water pump and mag cover too...but I don't remember who makes them.

Maybe I misread your statement but I thought you were looking for a case saver like this (except aftermarket):

If so I don't know any aftermarket ones for the KX500 but I have been thinking about making one...  :-o

Yup, looking to replace this with an aluminum one...they make them for lots of other makes, no luck on the 500 though  :-(

Looking for one for that goes over the front sprocket, should've been a little more clear, thanks though!  :-) :-)

T.M. Designs make the nice aftermarket ones...they don't list them for the K5, but maybe someone on here that has a KXF can measure the bolt hole distances....maybe there's a chance of making one work on the 500...
