Oversize Brake Rotor for a 2003
« on: November 24, 2015, 07:11:09 AM »
Does anyone know if there is an oversize brake rotor that will fit the 2003 model, or if you can reroute the line and use another year's rotor?  I have a Tusk oversize rotor on my 04 that looks like it would fit my 03, but I'm concerned that the bracket moves the rotor back and won't work with the brake line routing on my 03.  With the 525 finally living up to its reputation, I need more brakes or better life insurance.   :-D

I should add that the bike has Tusk wheels that required the 05-07 rotors to fit.  Tusk has a kit for the 06 (which is on my 04).

maybe you can get a diffrent brake line? try using the 04 bracket and see if the rotor and caliper mount up, maybe you can get a 04 line and route it diffrent

That's a good idea.  I think you can use the RM fork guards and route the line just like the later models.  That might solve my problem.  Has anyone tried doing this?

I'm pretty sure Rocky Mountain carries oversized too...
I know there's more, just can't think of them at the moment.

I threw on a 2012 Honda CRF master on my '00 250, and the difference in braking power was amazing....I went from having pull the lever almost to the bars before I got any good braking with the stock master....to just barely touching the lever, and lifting the rear wheel off the ground with the CRF master....for under $100.

I think I'll try that first.  Did you use the CRF banjo bolt and the KX line?

yes...and just so you know, it was a post made by Danger a few years ago, he did the same thing...that prompted me to try it...so ask him about it too.
