is there a front brake master cylinder upgrade?
« on: August 14, 2015, 12:50:26 AM »
i noticed that my 93 k5 is leaking at the front master cylinder (the brake thingy at the handelbars) and was wondering if a kx250f or kx450f master cylinder would fit on the hose, or if even a newer hose would fit on the caliper?

you can try a rebuild kit, some guys have good luck with them....

if you buy a new hose/line, get a stainless steel.
I threw on a 2012 CRF450 master on my 250, made a huge difference...then about a month after, I backed it up with one of these...

the slightest touch on the lever will lift the rear wheel off the ground now.

I've only done the Honda swap....but as far as I know, the Jap bikes all use basically the same banjo bolts...and you should be able to use just about any master you want.
I don't know if KTM or any of the other non Jap bikes use the same banjo bolt...maybe someone else can answer that.

Alexander,

Check if the leak is just coming from around the Banjo Bolt (the bolt that goes thru the brake line to that thingy). It could simply be just the Banjo Bolt Washers, a very simple & cheap fix.

you'll be all set...just be sure to buy new hardware to go with it...meaning a new banjo bolt and crush washer, probably isn't necessary for a new banjo bolt, but it's good to do.

scroll down about half way,and you'll see what I did for my 250...very simple...

simple yet elegant! and i think you are rigth about the jap master's if nissin make all of them and the dimentions worked when they first started making them then i don't se any reason why they would make diffrent banjo bolts and washers in diffrent sizes ever! so that should make them universal, ill be looking to get a new master from a newer bike then, and updat on this topic, thanks for the answers!

just to be on the safe side....when I ordered the new banjo bolt for the CRF master, I ordered a 2012 CRF banjo bolt, so there wouldn't be any question....and yes, it all worked fine with the stock KX250 brake line.

that really just goes with comon sense, if i end up needing anything new for the bike i order the year and model the part will be replacing just to be safe, no matter how universial it is supposed to be  :|
