2003 kx 250 rear brake problem
« on: August 06, 2015, 04:37:41 AM »
Hi guys I have a 2003 kx 250 and I noticed the rear calliper is moving up and down quite a lot. The banjo bolt has left a mark in the swing arm so it can't be right. Its attached to the calliper mounting bracket and the mounting bracket is what's moving. I don't see anywhere to mount the bracket to the swing arm to secure it. The axle bolt is the only thing holding it and it's pivoting freely on it and banging around. I'm needing some help in figuring out  how to secure the mounting bracket so it's tight.

Thanks
John

Can you post some pictures of the brake?  Here's a how to using photobucket, which is free.

from what I could see, it "looks" like the wrong carrier for that swing arm....the carrier should not be anywhere near that sloppy where it slides onto the swing arm, unless it's really worn that much.

did you buy the bike used?
Excuse me, ma'am...but you've got extremely nice legs!!!...what time do they open???                                                                                                               https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8tCgN3aryQ

I bought it used. I'm taking it apart now and it's in pretty rough shape. The swing arm key looks worn out. That sucks

eh, you can find used swing-arms on e-bay....only problem, '03 was an "only year" as far as the swing-arm, so it could take a while to find one.
I've also heard of guys cutting off the old "key" on the swing-arm, and having a newer/better key welded on in it's place.

The rear axle nut was loose and the hole for the cotter pin is outside the grooves on the castle nut.

yeah...if it was ridden like that for a while, that could do it.

I think I need to shim out the swing arm to where the castle nut works. Everything thing is outta wack for the brake with it squeezed in so tight. Looks like I can fit a washer between the caliber bracket and bearing retainer. Worth a shot!

it's another term for the rail, that the carrier slides on to.

Makes sense.

the rail wears out real quickly if you're a mostly mud rider.
