I have a two cousins I have been riding with since we all learned to ride. One of them recently became a dive master on a boat in the Bahamas, so we only get to see him every six weeks or so when he goes on vacation from his vacation.
He was in for the fourth, so my cousin who lives here and I all decided we should go riding. We planned on going yesterday, as rain was forecast for today. When I called the riding area at Draper Lake, it was closed due to heavy rainfall last week. We scrambled around for a place to ride, and the internet turned up a riding area at El Reno Lake in El Reno. We have never ridden there before, but it was open and close by. When we got to the lake, it was nearly impossible to find. We kept passing this fenced in area that looked like it was mowed by a guy with his eyes closed, but we didn't know what it was. Turns out it was the riding area. Yep, it was small enough to be fenced in. It had one trail, four jumps, two big banked corners, and lots of unused grass. Here's a picture of the whole riding area.
We decided to make the best of it, because a day riding beats a day at work (unless your Bahamas cousin, who I am starting to hate a little bit the more I think about his job
). I brought my KTM 200 SX and 105 XC for the cousins to ride, and I rode my hybrid KX/KDX. I ended up bringing a trail bike knife to an orange MX gunfight. I could catch them in the corners, and the rougher areas were mine (thank you Mr. Showa for the A Kit!), but they just dusted me on the long straights. We had a blast, and ended up riding for 3 hours, racing nearly the entire time. I can barely move today, but it was all worth it. Sometimes fun is where you make it, and the company is much more important than the terrain.
