1993 KX 500 REBUILD
« on: April 11, 2015, 01:14:33 PM »
Well fellas I just spent a wad of dough on one of my bikes.I started on this project back in January sometime and had to take about a month off of working on it. Finally got back to it this weekend. I would like to thank Sandblaster for your tips on assembling the bottom end, Pinsonnault Racing for the crank balance , Larry for the compression release and Terry at Custom Performance for the cylinder bore. I'll try to post some pics of the timeline.

are those Devol rad guards?
I only ask, because I've never seen them in gold/bronze.

What did you think of the crank balance?  Big difference?  Looks great.

yep. Devol.

Did you have them coated that color special , or is that just the way they came? They look sweet.

I've been thinking of trying plasti-dip on my hubs , fork outers & shock body. Anodizing would be best but its not possible due to you can't seal the internals from what I understand , powder coat involves enough heat you'd anneal the parts. Always looking for cool new coating ideas, & those definetly fit the bill for excellent looking.

Also is that a spare set of 89 500 forks you got in the background?
if I only had a pair, I could actually ride this thing

& to the people I like  FYYFF

I won't build my own K5 without balancing.
I strongly recommend it to all our K5 customers.
Todd is doing another for one of my customers right now.
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

The rad gaurds are original color, I've had them many years. The engine still has some vib at very low rpm, smooths
out as these revs rise. that is a set of '89 forks back there along with several other parts including a small flywheel and ignition. The chrome on the forks is in terrible shape. I loved those 49mm's on my '89 250.
