base suspension setting for 1999 kx 250

I'm racing hare scrambles this year and I was hoping someone can help. I recently just got all my suspension rebuilt and need some basic suspension settings. I'm 6 ft tall and weigh 180 lbs. I'm a c vet rider some I'm not wicked fast. If anybody has some advice on how to set it up that would be very helpful. The shop I got the stuff done at said he set both front and rear on ten clicks each. They seem pretty stiff and I can't test because there is still a ton of snow on the ground. The first race is on the 29th of march. It's coming soon and I would like to be able ride threw the  rocks and roots without being blasted all over the place.

if you can't ride it to test it because of the snow...then all you can really do is get together with a buddy, and have them help you set up the sag.
you should have about an inch of free-sag if you're not on the bike.

you should be either side of 3 1/2inches of sag if you sit on the bike with all your gear on, like you were going riding...here's a couple good explanations...

I have my race sag set. I was just hoping someone would have a clicker setting for me to start with. I really never messed with suspension before. I always just rode with what ever it had.  I can't seem to find much information on my bike. Probably because it's so old.

that's really the best advice that can be given until you can actually ride it and do some testing.

did you record your old settings before you sent it out?...you could potentially use that as your starting point if you did.

These older models really need gold valve or something similar , you can fit them yourself , and they have spec sheet so you can change settings , I have been working on 14 and15 kx 450 air forks lately and changed to gold valves on compression and the mid valve on these models , what a difference , a lot better , they even turn better , so if you got spare dollars go all the way , the piston on these older models don't flow much and need to be changed , im not sure if the 99 has bladder forks or not but the 250 01 has , I disconnect the bladder system to get rid of the pressure in side , it works better and doesn't deflect half as much on sharp bumps and logs , hope this helps.
