KX250 1988 seat replacement?
« on: February 10, 2015, 10:33:13 PM »
Hi guys and gals, my first post on here but I have read a lot of useful stuff on other threads, cheers!

I have an 88 KX 250 and the seat is done. I was looking at a TC4 gripper seat cover and some new foam, however they do not make these for bikes as old as the 88.

My question is, what model from around 2000 on would stand a chance of fitting fairly well, it does not need to be perfect but does anybody know what is possible here.

Many Thanks!

have you tried Hi Flite?...I've seen guys get covers from them recently for 1985 Kawasaki KX bikes.

welcome.

The 88 and 89 KX big bike seats were identical (and the same as used on the 89-04 kx500).    That said there are no premade seats like you can find for later model mx bikes.

You can find new seat foam and a replica 88 seat cover on Ebay.  Both will set you back (total) around 100 or so.   IMHO it would be a crime to put anything other than the blue cover with white "Kawasaki" lettering on the 88 model.  :)

Thank you very much for all the info you handsome devils!

Forgive me for getting a black factory effect gripper seat and new foam. It is really handy that the KX500 up to end of production is the same. Thanks very much for that info. I'm in the UK and I can source that stuff here so saves me a few "bucks"! :D

I shall do, the frame and swingarm are in getting blasted and painted today so my full refurb is well underway. Approximately $700 spent so far but that should nearly cover it all! Pics to follow! :D

Would something like this work?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-BLUE-Gripper-Seat-cover-KX125-1985-87-KX250-1985-87-KX500-1985-87-/121562265802?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c4dacf8ca&vxp=mtr

It's gripper material....might stretch to fit 88...maybe?

dinky,

you'd never be able to stretch it enough....the '85-'87's front part that rides up the tank is MUCH narrower than the '88.
that's a good price though!

here's a comparison...

'85-'87 seat...

'88 seat...
