I gotta ask though, did the cracked skull involve a frying pan?  :-D No really though I'd be interested in the entirety of that story.

haha...that was funny!...as I know 2 people that've been massaged with a cast iron pan before...

I was working for a buddy I grew up with since 1st grade building a house just outside of Boston...it was my 3rd day working on his crew. It was at the end of the day on Friday Nov 19th '99, about 2:45pm...I had been busy all afternoon framing the 1st floor exterior walls. At some point during the day, someone had cut out the plywood that covered the stairwell hole to the cellar, then just threw a full sheet of 1/2" plywood over the hole...WITHOUT nailing it down, or writing CAUTION or DANGER on it. The buddy who I've known for so long, asked me to brace up the walls for the weekend whist he and the other guys wrapped up the tools. Well, that piece of plywood was in my way, so I went over to it, and stood it up the 4ft way...and just as I started to step towards it...down I went...head 1st onto concrete. The amount of blood that dumped outa my nose for about 4 seconds was horrifying!. I didn't know it at the time, but that blood was from a brain hemorrhage. So after sitting there for about 15mins, and everyone asking me if I was ok....I said let's get the F outa here and go home...which ended up being a 2 1/2 hour ride in bumper to bumper Boston traffic. I knew something was really wrong whilst sitting in the passenger seat...but I just wanted to get home.
I had my buddy drop me off at the local hospital here in Plymouth...they brought me right in, and did all kinds of MRI's, then I found out I cracked my skull. The hospital called my folks who were just getting ready to eat dinner, and told my mother it was the hospital calling, and that your son has just been admitted with a severe head injury, and he has a 50/50 chance of making it. I still had no idea of the severity of my injury at that point...all I knew was that my head hurt really bad. Once my parents got there, the doctors revealed the brain hemorrhage/cracked skull. After the 2nd day, I noticed my entire face was turning really dark purple, almost black especially around my eyes. Come to find out, that was because the bleeding from my brain had released pressure around my eye sockets...and that's what doctors said saved my life. They said if that pressure hadn't released...I more than likely would've died at the job site.

Then the biggest kick in the nuts....was a few days later, whilst I was laying in the ICU...my buddy showed up...to tell me he wasn't gonna let his insurance cover it. So I got a family attorney to call him to find out what was going on, why he was saying he wasn't gonna cover it....his response..."never worked for me, I never paid him". So my lawyer says "I thought you guys were friends?"....his response...."we are friends"....my lawyer then asks him, "what kinda friend leaves another friend for near death, with $50K in medical bills?"...his response..."oh well".

I think that hurt more....knowing that it took something like that to find out who a friend really was.
But in the end, I did sue him...and won a pretty decent amount after 7 years of battling.

whew...was that enough detail?

I love it when Karma follows through and give people what the deserve.  That douche bag deserved to lose a sack of money on that one.  How much easier would it have been to just claim it on insurance?  I'll bet whatever his increase in premiums would have been it paled in comparison to your settlement.

Just glad you don't have any lasting health issues and that you won the case!

Pain is just a way to let the weakness out  :-D
Glasses.... Forgot about those....  I only need them for comfortable reading and parts inspection  8-)

Riiiiiigghhtt... Glad you put a smily at the end of that!
Things started REALLY bothering me between 40 and 45. Has not gotten any better. A number of broken bones starting at 9. Couple shoulder surgeries on each side, hernia, lots of stitches. Joints are wearing out. Torn muscles. Good times!

for the 1st 6 years, I had completely lost my sense of smell and taste...completely!
but it wasn't all bad...as I found I was able to make good money at bars/pubs...betting people I could swill a 12oz bottle of Tobasco without even crackin of sweat!...I made a lot of jaws drop.

d**n, Foxx. I prefer the money loan test to figure out a true friend, you did that the hard way. He didn't deserve you, though & I hope he really felt it. Your wording gives you away 15 years later. Respect Man.

Whining about your aches and pains in your 30's :? Sounds like you have been riding your couch to much. Time to get out and get some exercise.  look at Malcolm Smith in his 70s and probably out rides all of us and i bet you don't here him whining . Most of the guys I ride with are in there 50s and I am staring at 50 hard and they out run most of the younger guys that come along.. dont let the years get you I am not. I put my rain gear on and ride my bicycle 5 miles to work at least 4 days a week

Foxx... I feel for ya...
I blew my back out working for my wife's cousin who I always thought of as a good guy.
3 months after the accident he tells me that he didn't have insurance on me and started denying that I got hurt on the job.
Long story short I got my degree out of the deal

roughly 2-3 years after the accident, he did spiral down hill pretty bad...his wife left him and "took him to the cleaners", he got hooked on oxycontin hard and lost everything he had.
as of today, I still haven't seen him...I'm not even sure where he's living, if he's even still in the state. I've always believed the saying, "what goes around, comes around." :-)

yup, some people just straight up suck...no matter how well you think you know them.
since my accident...I really take caution who I trust now.
and over the past decade, I've let several friendships go, because I strongly felt as though they'd be too selfish to have my back if ever needed. I can count my true friends on one hand these days...and I don't even need the whole hand. :-)

Hi, please excuse the delayed responce but I'm a newbie. This caught my attention cause at 43 I can relate to your comments. Lots of people buy into the "I'm getting old so get used the pain" mentality. Dont believe it. From 40 to now, 43, I had a series of problems with cronic tendon pain(tendinitis) in elbow, shoulder and knee. One after the other. Doctors wanted to inject me with cortisone or even operate. The most helpful info I found explained that tendon weakness and trouble or very slow healing of tendons is a sign of the wrong diet. You get away with it when you're younger but thats what catches up with you, not what you've done in the past but what you're eating now. The modern diet is packed everywhere with sugar. Carbs are turned into sugars too. This constantly stressed the body as it tries to proccess all the sugars and makes it difficult for your body to heal tendons/ligaments. Ibuprofen (and all non-steriodal anti inflammatries) in your system adds to the chemical imbalance problem in the body, despite the temporary relief it may bring. I know there's a lot of different info on this topic from different sources and I'm not saying this is 100% correct, but when I acted on this info and starting eating less sugars and carbs and a bit more protien, my tendon problem dissapeared. For me a huge result because this problem was stopping me from riding dirt and now I'm back riding trails and track :)

Thanks, Lou.

I've never really had an issue with my weight.  It just stayed steady, not really being affected by exercise of diet.  As I passed forty, my weight started to inch up a bit.  I read about the negative effects of sugar, so I gave it a try.  I limited my sugar, no sugary drinks, snacks, or desserts.  I've lost 15 pounds in a couple of weeks, and it's really easy. Plus I'm sleeping better and have more energy. And come to think of it, my knees feel better as well.
