Hi All,

Just wondering how many miles of fun a typical KX 250 with a 2 gal tank can have?

depends on how hard you're on it...jetting plays a role in it too....soft sand and hill climbing will suck it right up if you do a lot of that too.
I get either side of 35miles out of a full tank on my '00 250...depending on what type of riding I'm doing....but I've always ridden in a lower gear, in the upper revs more than most guys do...it's just how I grew up riding.
Excuse me, ma'am...but you've got extremely nice legs!!!...what time do they open???                                                                                                               https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8tCgN3aryQ

My 87 250 with 13/51 gearing goes around 30-33 miles, with 14/51 I average 35-37 on mostly firm damp sand trails and a good mix of straights and tight turns and 4 very large sand hills. When the sand is dry and loosens up the numbers drop at least 2 miles distance.

Switching to a Pro Circuit Platinum pipe from stock and leaning it out a little improved it's mileage to where it is now. But as The Fox says, riding style and trail conditions play a big role. I go a lot further riding with my wife than I do with my boys.

I'm going this weekend, first cold weather woods ride with this pipe, and the temps should be in the 50's. Curious to see how it affects mileage. It seems to run crisper now than at 80 degrees a few months ago.

I used to have a great fear of running out of gas. Round here some of these trails get no traffic for weeks at a time and it gets lonely fast.
Now, most of my rides are to a very small town Tavern (with great sandwiches and other "stuff") 25 miles away and a gas station a mile up the road.
Where the Hell is "Easy Street" ?

Where did you get the pipe from?

I've been looking, but I couldn't find anyone that still makes pipes for an 87 KX 250.

dinky,

here's a list of pipe builders...not sure how many are still active, since it's a fairly old thread.

other than that, just keep checking e-bay/craiglist for a pipe.

Check out Jemco. I just found out that they make a pipe for the 85-86 KX250. Ive also heard that a 88-89 pipe works with some modifications.

In my '03/'04/'07s, on pump gas in the sand, mpg was roughly 13 mpg's. In the rocks (lower revs, gear tall for traction), I've squeaked out around 23mpg. Now on straight 110 leaded race juice and the lean jetting that goes with it, my mileage is awesome! In the sand its almost 20mpg and the rocks/dual-sport events I've squeaked out 34mpg!!! (Riding on the pilot, low rpm and carrying speed to maximize mpg since the only extra 110 leaded there was I had in a canteen). Terrain, riding style, fuel & jetting to accommodate that fuel dictate what mpg's you'll get.
