So I put this bike on Ebay last week and it closed Tuesday with a starting bid of $2500. No bids. Lots of 'views' and 'watchers' but not one bid. Zero. Nada. Geez, is it that ugly?  :?
I figured it was a good time of the season to sell it. Hmmm. I certainly have more than that into it but that does not often translate over. Have to think about this some.
I bought two more motorcycles in the last three weeks so am getting a pretty full stable!

Yeah... sales are slow for us considering the time of the year and I'm not seeing the parking lots full at the riding parks..

I did have one very kind person  :-P  that said he would buy it for $1500.  :lol:  I have another project I am working on and may look to see if the wheels will work on it. Probably will leave it as is for now and just leave it comfortable and protected in the garage. When I look at the cover I imagine a swirling darkness under it waiting to be unleashed...  :-D

So I finally got some mix made up, pulled the cover off it, and topped off the KX5 to ride to work. Granted it has been a while since I rode it... I fired it up and took a quick look at the lower right of the VaporTech gauge (1st clue) after it was running for a bit and it was pretty stable at 165. I did not have my glasses on (second clue) at the time.
Hit the freeway and noticed the 'temp' was climbing some but not to worried as it is 75 degrees out. Still climbing as I am running along steady at 65 which concerns me as it is over 200 now.  :x The only time it has been that hot before is when I topped it out. Coming up on my exit and it is showing 240  :| but it is still running happy as a clam and no pinging or acting 'hot' (third clue) but now I am worried and having thoughts of an engine rebuild and disasters. Got to make work though so keep going.
The temp is still climbing but very slowly (fourth clue) which is odd as I am maneuvering through 'town' traffic. I am thinking "Maybe I should stop and let it cool off" but it is still running fine and there is no water coming from the overflow. I pull into work and it is showing 280. Holy crap!  :-o I kill it, get off and feel the cylinder (I can touch it) and watch the overflow. Nothing (fifth clue).
I have some free time for the first half of shift so I am franticly searching KXRiders and other sites for the highest running temps people have seen.  This is just not good!  :?
On lunch I move the bike over where I can lean it over a bit to burp the head. The movement activates the VaporTech gauge. I put my glasses on to see and burp the head. It is just fluid, no air. I check the plug to make sure it is tight (for good measure) and pop the radiator cap. Full. I stand up full of concern and notice the VaporTech gauge is still reading 280, but there is a 'dot' after the "8". Then it dawns on me. I was watching the odometer! Good Grief. Then I remember the second push of the 'mode' button gets water (head) temp. I was pissed (at myself) and relieved at the same time.  :-P
I am just glad I left my phone at home today or I would have been posting about the 'uber high' temperatures I was seeing. This is bad enough! While funny after, it was a rough four hours. Temp was fine and stable on the way home...  :lol: :-D

Well, I hope I don't get kicked off this site... I sold my KX5 SuMo Friday.  :cry: It really was time for me to raise the white flag and admit at 61 with damage (6 weeks out of my 4th rotator cuff surgery) it is time to stick to the slower and more easy going style of dirt riding and motorcycles in general. Not more track days or racing either. Sold two of our Ninja's last week as well.
I sold the KX5 with the dirt stuff and other parts I had collected over the years. There may be a mention of it here at some point by the new owner.  :wink:
I mentioned to my wife that I will have to turn in my 'man card' after the sale and she, in her most sympathetic voice, asked me if that meant we were in a 'same sex' marriage now. Nice.
I will keep my little KE100 and may look for a smaller KX but time will tell.
KX'less in Seattle!  :-D

that sucks...that was a clean bike you had!....it'll be interesting if that "ole itch" comes back to haunt ya, if a smokin' deal on another 500 crosses your path. :lol:

That was what happened on this one! I had three different KX500's over 30 years plus a 'parts' one I was going to fix up but sold it with #1. I had an 'almost' wipe out on #2 when I was 50 and decided to get rid of it before something happened. Ten years later I ran across #3 and decided at 60 I should buy another one... Not the best idea. If I run across another that seems like a good deal I will put it on here and walk away!  :-D

I'm really looking forward to running them side by side, The new one has a modded head and MZB ignition but is otherwise stock. Mine has stock port timing but everything else has been dittled with to some extent. It should be interesting  8-)

I will be looking forward to hearing how the two compare. Stock pretty much everything including pipe on my old bike/your new one.  :-) Both with MZB. Interesting your observations on the MZB. Don't remember reading anything about that on this site?
