Truck search
« on: October 02, 2013, 11:08:28 AM »
Hmmm   Im not a ford guy.   But I like their 7.3.     and this truck is kinda a deal?

hard to tell in the pictures (undercarage) if thats the original black, or they spray painted to make everything look good???

from my research.. the 2000 is a good year.

bigger turbo and injectors thatn the 99yr.    and the last year of the forged rods.

also intercooled (unlike pre99)..

should Note. I was looking at lowish milage  chevy 1500's with a 5.3l           but for a very minor price differance, I may be able to jump up to big diesel ford country

Your next truck?
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

Man that is shady. Looks like that truck got mangled pretty bad. Airbags deployed too. Looks like they did a nice job fixing it, but good thing you checked the VIN #.....

And since they fixed it to sell it, the undercarriage probably does have a fresh coat of black spray paint on it.

Is the 6.0 power stroke  as big a deal breaker as I think it is??

If they have not chipped it without doing the egr cooler delete and arp head bolts, it would not be a deal breaker for me.

6.0l is a deal breaker.........The turbo has self adjusting vanes that get sticky with soot.....then they either freeze open or closed.......so either no bottom end or no top end.....and that's only some of the problems......

the 6 speed is gold.....finding one is like finding a jeff ward bike.  If I could inexpensively swap in a 6 speed into my truck I would.  I don't think the exhaust brake is a deal breaker.  Check to see if it is an aftermarket exhaust brake because one of the popular mods on those trucks is this.......on the exhaust side of the turbo there is a flapper called an EBPV (exhaust back pressure valve).  Its job is to partially close on start up to aid in engine warm up.......It is controlled by an electronic actuator.  Some people wire it up to close using a switch acting like an exhaust valve....funny thing is the fancy one by BANKS works the same d**n way.

a 7.3 with a manual would be good for me.

I REFUSE to own one with an auto.    I Personaly have had to change too many ..

same reason I wont own a duramaxx.    Personaly have seen WAY too many injection / Head  issues.

Youd think building dozens of D-max's a year I could agree but I digress. Yes we have an aluminum hardness tester.  We also innovated LB7 "screw in" injector cups. Its all filtration LLY 2004

Have fun with with the cracked heads & lovely injectors . I also do all the magging. 1 set I've seen "not" cracked 7.3 anyway. Did I sat we dont build ford. Dmax & Cummins only

I know I sound like an asshole but your 5.3 was a better plan. Really though your fun
