Engine ID help
« on: September 22, 2013, 03:34:21 PM »
I got a bike yesterday that is a bastard. I did search first but I cant find the # id page , I know its like 10th digit on the case is the tell but I cant find the page. Its a Doldguy answered page if I remember right. If you cant tell, I feel dumb.

I was told a 97 engine & 89 frame but looking at Oem-Cycle I think thats backwards as the frame is jkakxve16va

Which would be 97 so the motor kx500be009041 is the 89 hence the 10th as a 9 ? d**n Bastard , cheap though.

Please correct me if I'm wrong

The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

What if the cases have no numbers?

If it has the 3 valve Kipps then it is 89 or newer.
The only differences in the earlier kx500 engines is the shift shaft and shift lever spline sizes, 93 and older are smaller and 94 and never are bigger.
They are interchangeable but you need to use the correct lever on the shaft.
92 and newer all use the same flywheel and rotor.
91 and older had some variance but you can use the flywheel and rotor off of any year 89-04 as long as you use them in a set.
CDI's and coils are identical.
Carb info:
KEIHIN PWK G250 FITS 96-04 KX500 - 39MM
KEIHIN PWK V563 FITS 90-93 KX500
KEIHIN PWK V4610H05 FITS 89 KX500
You can swap any of these years of carbs.. but I like the newer ones..
