Slow going on the KX500AF!
« on: August 10, 2013, 07:42:16 AM »
We went down a wash that did have a burned in trail. The last rain took it all out! I was tip toeing through the wash as there were land mines everywhere! The 500AF was a little overkill and I never gave it more than about 1/4 throttle.

You've got some great riding opportunities there in Las Vegas. Hot day, or did you start early enough to beat the heat?

About 80 when we started and close to a 100 when we loaded up. You have to get out there right as the sun comes up to get an hour or two in. It's August now and though still 100 plus temps by noon it's better then June or July when it's a 100 plus 24/7.

Nevada in August...I haven't ridden in that heat, but I've experienced it just the same.

I helped support a friend in last years Vegas-to-Reno race. He rode the Amateur Ironman Class...and won!

Yes, it was hot. Even Reno was warm. We passed through some spectacular country, though. Walker Lake was especially impressive.

I work with a guy who's son does the Vegas to Reno "Ironman". His son's name is Sam Longson. He did the race three years in a row placing 1st thru 3rd. He got 3rd on the last race finishing the last 14 miles with a broken collar bone! Breaks his collar bone at about 4:25. Kid is tough as nails!
