Need an answer to my Ignorance please

With my limited knowledge of 2-strokes, how is it possible to turn a 2-stroke into a street machine? I always thought they would blow-up or wear out so much quicker because they weren't made to run at an high RPM for long periods of time like a 4-stroke. I know that out-board 2-stroke engines on boats do it but I still can't wrap my head around it. Please do explain how you guys can run them on the road without blowing them up.

4strokes are better for street...

2 strokes need a much richer  jetting for street use. with mx- or offroad-jetting on longer high-rpm-distance on street, makes them run to lean and kaboom... 

the guy who bought my 2000 gasgas ec300 in 2003, had blown this engine in only a week, on street use only. as he picked up the bike i gave him a list with the right jettings in mx, offroad and street . he ignored that and a few days later i had the engine back on my workbench for a complete and real expensive rebuild . the piston was new with only 3 hours as i sold it... and the idiot had damaged the cylinder so hard, that the welder said : no way! and the engine needed a new one ...

Ran my 500 on the street a lot for 3 years.  Lots of fun gear and jet accordingly.  Use a tach like a tail tech vapor to tell how hard u are turning at cruising speed and keep on top of it mixture wise so you can ride it a long time.  Great parking lot conversation starter too

So in other words, run the carb with more fuel and bump up the oil:gas ratio? Another stupid question, are they more for around town bikes or could i run it 5th gear, half throttle for a long time without blowing it up?

you wont have any fun running it as anything besides a run around town bike, even my ktm530 xc-w dosn't enjoy cruising at anything over 60 and thats a wide ratio big motor 4 stroke.

In other words if you want a fun in town bike. a dual sport 250 500 450 bike is awesome if you want to do big distance you need a bike leaned more to street then dirt.  dual sport = kinda good on street kinda good on dirt but not awesome at anything. how i have my 530 is basically a full blown dirt bike with a license plate witch i just use it as a way to run to the store for fun and a easy way to get to my local ride spots.

Well I live on a 1 lane back road where two cars almost have to go off the road to let each other pass. Top speed limit is 55 near town. But still, ripping up and down the road or even to the ice cream shop would be sweet!
