MZB for the 250
« on: April 20, 2013, 09:00:10 AM »
I do not know much about the KX 250 engines and ignition set up.  I would like to build another woods bike and wanted to use an 03 or newer platform.  So, I was asking Penton about the MZB for a 250.  They can probably do one for one up to a 98.  The later ones had a power circuit I am told and the MZB does not support that.  So, has anybody swapped out the stock carb with the TPS for a PWK?  That would eliminate some headache.  I think a big bore 250 with lights to run at night could be a very fun bike.  Advice and suggestions are very open and welcome.

Thanks,
Alex

Ya, I would rather have lights.  Most guys I know with the 4t fcr unhook the TPS, I also like the throttle response with it unhooked too.  But, that is a 4t.  Swap in a 38 PWK.

Although they are not available anymore, we have a Eline coil on my wifes 03. It works very well and has been trouble free. We have done many night rides and its brighter than my DRZ400S headlight. There is a guy that has been making exact copies of the Eline for KX250s, using the same parts supplier for the coils, magnet/weight etc. and CNCs the case. He is on Thumper Talk. He also makes one for the YZ250.
A couple of 03 and 04 KXs, a few YZs, 3 PE 400s, a DR and a TS.

Bringing this one back from the dead. I am looking for a programable ignition for my 1990 250, since I am boring and stroking it to 300 I am not sure how the OEM ignition system will handle it. People talk a lot about MZB ignitions being good for vintage bikes and much better quality and reliability than PVL. Looking into MZB more I found their website vague, can any one suggest a supplier or another source of a decent aftermarket ignition. I don't want to run lights or any other accessories, I just need a good strong ignition system that has some room for manoeuvrability.
