Moropunk this is a 89 kx250 tank. Whether it be u.s or European I have no idea. But it's not the same. If ordering from a tank manufacture they sell you the kx500 tank because they bolt right up to either bike.

this is a custom tank, which will fit on 89 kx250 or 88-2004 kx500 . and looks better than stock  :-D

I am not sure where you can buy the tank.  :| in the middle and late '80s some of the factory gp kx  also had these manufactured aluminium tanks.

I just compared a few oem numbers of 88-2004 kx500 and 88/89 kx250. there are different numbers, because of the different decors and colors over the years. But all the old numbers are replaced by oem number 51001 14736W. stock tank is still avaiable in green (or black 03/04 KX500).
€ 375.50 . dont know how much it is in us dollar.  you better look for an good used tank...

that is the stock kx 250 89 tank shape not custom, i have seen many over the years but they are getting hard to find now. but they are around and a few end up on ebay but dont last very long before they are sold and demand a high price these days

Keep diggin' bilger69 and you will find one.
Been looking for a while myself. I just scored one last week for a build I've got going on. I had to buy the whole turd just for the tank :-o. Not alot of money but the seller was advertising it to need only a motor :?. Looks ten times worse in person and I was ashamed to even load it in the truck and drive home!

How bout the drum brake and makeshift swingarm bolt that did not go all the way thru.

1989 250 tank on top...K5 tank below that.

The pics of the K5 tank do not have the tank mount bolts in and it slid down so actually  the K5 tank still sits a tad taller at the top than what the pics show for comparison.

I only ride woods, tight single track with various changing conditions(hills, rock, creek, logs) and a lil MX. I'm with you in thinking a tall seat foam with the 1989 250 tank is the way to go!!!
Keep Lookin! It's out there somewhere!

Thanks alot for the comparison pictures rip roost!  And for the encouragement. You are one lucky guy I searched all last night on ebay, google, for tanks and complete bikes. With no luck. What a treasure hunt!   The tank in the picture I posted is different than yours and I would live with either one. It just makes me wonder what tank was on that kx5 I posted in this thread. Thanks again!

Looks like I may have to buy this one. I THINK this is it. 539 US Dollars though! That's a lot of money.  It's an alloy one that husky333 was talking about. Just worried about denting it.      Here's a link to the site.                                                                     http://www.gmxradiators.co.uk/cgi-bin/sitewise.pl?act=sect&sterms=&s=52&offset=8&pt=47&id=gmx

if you're worried about denting it...that should tell you right there, don't buy it!...UNLESS your plan is to keep it in your living room as a show piece, and never ride it.Not sure what kind of riding you do,but one failed hillclimb, and the bike tumbles back down the hill, there's a good chance it'll get beat up.
Plus,if you're worried about it all the time..it's gonna keep you from riding the bike to your full potential...you'll always be favoring it.
If it were me...I'd keep waiting for an OEM plastic one....you have to ask yourself,is it something you absolutely "need",or just want. Now,God knows I spend money faster than I make it,but $500+ is alot of money to spend on something you don't want to get dented in a sport where it's next to impossible to prevent. Not trying to advise you how to spend your money :-D...just giving my thoughts on your concern about dents.

Excuse me, ma'am...but you've got extremely nice legs!!!...what time do they open???                                                                                                               https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8tCgN3aryQ

Thanks Foxx! That's gotta be the best thing I heard all day I would have to say your right.  I better just sit back and relax and keep searching. I spend money quicker than I get and I think I have an addiction to spending money on my bike lol.  The tanks is a "I really want and gotta have" but sure is not a NEED.  So I best calm down and wait for a plastic one.

yes,the 88 is bigger/bulkier...that's why the 89 tank is hard to find and sought by many.
