Water Pump Seal Replacement w/o Removing Clutch Cover?
« on: March 02, 2013, 04:42:42 AM »
Noticed some condensation on my oil level window (on the inside) after riding.
Lasts an hour or two then goes away.  Nothing in radiator fluid and trans oil looks good.

Thought the bike might be telling that it is time to change it anyway so ordered a new seal.  Pulled off the water pump cover and impeller. Poked around a bit and was able to pull the seal out.  Bearing behind looks good, no play and the impeller shaft looks good.  Can I just grease up the new seal and put it back together?  When I have searched the site everyone always says that you have to pull the cover and get to it that way.  If the bearings need changed I can see that, but if I just want to replace the seal leaving the clutch cover on is ok right?

Used bike so no idea what the PO has done, but overall bike looks good.

Thanks for any replies...

Turns out fairly easy to do.  Grease up the seal well around the impeller shaft and gently press in with the correct size socket. Reassemble and you are good to go.  Do not need to take off anything except the water pump cover and the impeller.
