Trying to cleanup this 96 KDX. Here's the plan list

Fork swap
handlebar
rear shock swap
reed cage
carburetor swap
plastic
headlight
stop before it is a money pit :lol:




OK this what is done since I started. I took longer than planned,,,,but life has been busy.



WER steering stabilizer.


The Fisher seat is really the crowning glory on this bike. Rack from Happy-Trail.com mkers of dual sport racks and panniers.


I had two broken kickstands I saved,,, combined they made one working one. New Moose shift lever.


Hel brake line with an extra 4",,,works excellent. KX500 clutch cable worked better than KDX cable. New hand guards.


Carb from 99' CR125 boot from KX500. Boyesen Super Stock Reed. Rear shock spring from KX500


I rewound the stator the headlight is very bright. I didn't test watts but it is good must be over 90w. Hooked tail light up to the turn signal switch so I can turn it off. Nice 18 pin LED for tail.


This project was really to get a better learning bike under my step-son,,,he likes it a lot better than the KX500,,,for obvious reasons.




Fun day riding today.

You forgot one important upgrade.............500cc engine. :-D

Missed this

That was the original plan, but I found an 07' KX450 grenaded aluminum frame, hope I'm happy with the outcome. It may take years.

I'm hoping to do this:
1- Christini drive
2- MZB with a battery
3- Larry's compression release
4- street legal lighting
5- wide ratio tranny
6- Acherbis 6.6 gal (not sure this works yet,, Plan B aluminum tank)
7- wheels and rims - 18" rear
8- Highway dirtbike billet and switches
9- ProMoto Billet kickstand and rear rack
10-Strengthened sub-frame to hold GiantLoop bag of camping gear
11-CPI pipe
12-Ect. ect.


When complete I want to do a 2-3 week ride across Idaho hitting as much single track high mountain terrain as possible. Camping in locations such as these.

 I dont really think of a 200 as a compression release kind of bike. Is it that bad to kick or you got bad knee hip ankle?
I'm quite curious on you tank set up as well seeing pics of what you do on the subframe.

That sounds like a really fun bike
if I only had a pair, I could actually ride this thing

I got talking about my k5AF plans in the wrong thread.

If I could just build as fast as my imagination goes. I better eat what's on my plate first. Got my rear shock parts for the 200....Back to work.

Have not bought a garmin. I bought an app for  my Droid called DualSportMaps.com, but I don't know how to run it.

Have not bought a garmin. I bought an app for  my Droid called DualSportMaps.com, but I don't know how to run it.

HA.. well when you get one.. Ill send it to you..

For us.. it was a must.   I coasted dad into 3 gas stasions this trip..   YES... coast... bike shuts off as you enter...    and he has a 5gal tank... and pulls 50-55mpg

I moved over to the west side right on the Oregon border town called Payette. There are a couple of good routes up to north Idaho over more to the west. When/If you revisit, I'd like to jump in for a longer ride. I may be close to SD in Feb. Planning a ride in Death Valley.
