Been lurking here and wearing out the server for a while now.....so time to get wet.....and Green!

Starting point:  Gonna do a SF build on a KX500 motor

Questions

1.  Looking at two KX5 bikes - both complete, all stock and low hour with titles.   Bike #1 is a '93 @ $1200, bike #2 is a 2000 @ $1800 = Which one to choose and why (Eric Gorr is going two get which ever one I do get regardless).

2.  Which year is preferred for a SF KX250 base?  02 when they switched to 48mm forks or anything between the 99-02 years or ?..


Target is do it all, vintage mx ( we have a class for 1/2 liter smokers) and woods and just stupid grins.

first off welcome...

All you will use from the doner bike is the motor... get the one with the best motor.. few hundred dollers extra spent here can save you SEVERAL hundred down the line...    you can drop ALOT of money in these motors VERY fast.....   motors are same from 89-2004  

Cant help ya on Q #2....     others that are the conversion guys can chime in.


One suggestion..      dont use Gorr..      all his work is done by hacks in the shop these days from the work I have seen. (like the CYL he bored for me and BLEW IT by .010"..   all he had to say for himself was "send it back and we will try again"    )     Yea... "try again"...

Id HIGHLY reccomend  one of our members here on the site.    does GREAT WORK... and Im picky...

Race - Ride in the 70s?  Dad worked heavy construction so I grew up overseas and did High School in Africa, Zaire of all places - and there (being the old Belgian Congo) MX was HOT>
72 CZ 250 (even got to Race two motos with Joel Robert - well he smoked us BAD but we were on the track at the same time with him!)

did a bit on a friends 76 Montessa 250
and my primary longest running racer was the Bob Hannah Stock special the 1977 YZ250D - .
Closed out the 70s on a 1979 YZ400 when I was back here in the US for College.....

My primary Vintage ride is my 1981 YZ465 that I did a frame up restore on - fun machine!
