87 kx250

A friend of mines son has a 87 model kx250 for sale for 250 dollars.  The only thing wrong with it is it needs a clutch and a chain according to him.  From what I have heard the 87 model was an odd bird and has some parts on it that only fit that year.  Is it worth getting?  How hard is it to find parts for and getting it up and running?  Should I stay clear? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

If that is really all that is wrong with it, that's a great deal.

I am actually rebuilding my 87 kx 250 from the ground up. Parts are somewhat easy to find off eBay and I am finding some OEM parts from my local dealer. One thing I am noticing on eBay is that some people are selling junk parts at prices I am finding new parts for, so be wary of that.

I would snatch it in a heartbeat. I thought the 87 was the best motor of the era.

Just got one myself. Trying to figure if I need a top end. Has 110lbs of compression but don't know if any KIPS valve issue which could throw off the reading. Kick through the stroke then seams to hydraulic at the end??? Not sure got a couple of back fires and quit.
