99 KX250
« on: July 26, 2012, 12:38:34 AM »
Hey guys, going to look at a 99 KX250 in the next few days. It needs piston and rings according to seller, cylinder is supposed to be fine. Other than that its in good order, he is lookin for $450 for it so it a pretty cheap bike.
Do ppl have an experience from them, are they a good bike?

Good Bikes, Price is right too, just make sure its a 1999 model...10th digit on the steering head is the letter "X".......R,S,T,V,W is a 94-98 model.

Hope this helps.

In your best interest, ASSUME the cylinder is blown and needs a re-plate !!

Hey guys, I looked at the bike this evening, mostly def not an 99. I think its a 92-93
It has the blue forks
Chassis number read kx250j-xxx...
Engine number read kx250je-xxx...

It needs a few bits like piston and rings, fork seals, maybe clutch etc and a some tlc. Undecided with what to do, a little risky when you cant hear the bike running :?

Your prob right, if I am gonna pick it up tomoro night, I am gonna remove the cylinder and make sure its not blown. Will make the seller look like a proper dick if it is blown!

400 euro's is alot for a 92/93 not running. i deal in bikes and i would expect a good running 92/93 bike to make only around the ?600-?700 tops in the U.K + bikes are cheaper in ireland i tend to find. i think 200-300 euro's would be a much safer bet. if you can get a photo of the actual bike i could value it better

Don't even think about buying this bike, if the owner is stupid enough to not even know what year bike he has, then again assume all his facts are BS as well. If the bike does have blue forks that does in fact mean the bike is the oddball '92-93 model. parts are hard to obtain cause they only made that chassis for 2 years. It's far better to find a '94 and up.

92 front wheel disk has 8 floating pins, cylinder has "KIPS" embossed on the side

93 front disk only 6 pins, no Kips logo.

Most power valves are no longer available new & most used are worn & need replacing.

Hey guys I thought about it today and I think your right, its too much money for too little bike.

So for around the same money I was offered this ktm 250 exc, think its a 96,97.
Its running fine, sprockets, chain and exhaust needs some attention but the guy still rides it fine. Here it is

that ktm seem a fair deal, they are a good machine but i found them to be  a little fussy with regards to jeting and set up compared to jap bikes. if   you are prepared to spend a little time with it the rewards are worth it. but yes i would not mind parting with 450 euros for that bike its a much better deal than the kx

KTM's are fantastic bikes. The woods racers LOVE the KTM's . Be forewarned OEM replacement parts are PAINFULLY expensive !
