power valve problem

what started out a simple engine out new ring/poss new piston snowballed!! now ive taken the head off the arm from the engine that controls power valve flops from side to side with no resistance, im sure there should be resistance like a recoil spring motion pinging it back to valves shut as it were... poss power valve govenor problems??? anybody had a similar problem ,might be worth mentioning sometimes over the jumps it seems to redline and dont like shutting down ive had a few scary moments i assumed i was just getting tired but now im not sure??? your comments would be appretiated ta jerry

sounds like a broken exhaust valve govener/spring...or the main rod is severely worn or broke.Do the valves still open and close with no tension...if they do,then it's more than likely the govener.

What year? 05-06-07 have a return spring under the cover of the control arm, they commonly break, and when they do it seems more of a bottom end power loss

How's it going matey
I've a 97 model and when I got it and stripped it down the governor was a pile of mush. The needle thrust bearings had disintegrated and the spacers were all worn to buggery. This thing works by centrifugal force, throwing out 4 ball bearings in a cross like cage, this cage wears where the bearings run and they groove it and then stick, causing the valves not to open fully. I replaced every part of mine except the gear which was okay. Another thing, the only thing holding the operating arm on to the toothed valve rack,or rod, is a tiny e-washer that fits into a groove on the end of the operating rack,or rod. Make sure this is in place, if it isn't then the grooved collar that the lug on the governor arm locates into may have fallen off the rack as well. You are right though when you say the arm should have resistance as there is quite a strong spring on the governor assembly.

              should be a doddle havnt stripped one for years though, normaly there pretty bullet proof shouldnt have much wear .......hopefully gonna be a long weekend got a kx 125 to rebuild top end as well as mine,also got a bash plate to make and tig on some brackets ....thats two weekends gone .

stripped the side off today turned out the bar that slots into the govenor had snapped off on bothsides of allen bolts , lucky me thinks it stayed in place and didnt jam and totaly muller something expensive or even worse ..i cant remember if i had a loss of power as the last time i rode it was well muddy and deep ruts , cant wait to see if its going to go  like the clappers when ive slipped in the new part and new ring. stillcant down load the helmet cam fottage very frustrating in deed
